95 Max engine dead, gone, and partly burned!!!!
Well guys, just like the title says, my motors dead and gone. Last night i was going out with my girl to get something to eat and all of a sudden i heard something like rocks kicking up and i was on the throttle going 40 but it seemed that the car wasn't moving anymore just coasting. So i pulled over and it stalled out. I was pissed, but i thought it would've been something simple like a belt from the way it sounded.... Boy was i mistaken...... I got out the car to check it, and my girl got out and she happened to look down and saw an orange light, yup you got it right, my max was on fire and blazin strong....... Boy was i pissed. we had to yank my girls kid out the car and run for it. The police and fire trucks came, and they put the fire out. One of the firemen decided to follow the oil line that came out my car, and when he returned he brought a long pieces of one of my frigin piston that shot out the motor. The firemen said the oil was leaking from the motor, and hit onto the cat which sparked it........ So what do yall think I should do? Keep it and fix it, or sell it and get something else? the damage that was done is only to the motor and cat i believe. If i'm not mistaken, the harness and body is good. I havent jacked it up yet to fully inspect it.

Yea i do because i actually like my max. I was talking to my buddy and he said i can put in a 2001 max motor with no problems. I would just have to splice in the injector clips and block off the egr. Is this true? Because i can get one on a good deal.

Note to self go buy a fire extinguisher in case my max decides to blow up. Sorry to here that man. I'd just go ahead and replce the motor. If you decide to stay 3.0 might as well get a dek.

The 00VI thread should help too, all of the info you need as far as injector harness splicing, EGR, IACV, all of that good stuff:

Thanks man for that info, it's going to come in handy as i got 2 deals on 01 motors. the first one is the original 01 motor with 222hp for $450 with a 6 month warranty out of a rear ended max with 62k on it. It's in pa so i wouldn't have to go far for it. The other one is also a 01 motor but it's the anniversary edition with 227hp. That one's $350 with 72k on it, but I don't believe it has a warranty on it, and it's back home in ny so i'll have to go home to get it then find a way to bring it back to pa.

pics or it didn't happen.
can you elaborate a little bit on why the engine would have blown? or was it *completely* random? because im coming up on 240,000miles on my 96, so im trying to keep a close eye on my baby. even using 91 octane

Wow so sorry to hear about that, I can only imagine how pissed you are haha. But how would something like this happen on a stock engine??? Unless your engine was not stock and was turbo charged or something :S
#12
well unfortunately, the car wasn't turbo charged well at least not yet, that's going onto the 01 motor. and Kap, my motor had 82k on it. I checked the oil the same day and it was full, and i also check my coolant and that was filled so i don't know as to why the hell my piston would decide to shoot out the motor and go chipping down the road.

reminds me of when i was engine swapping a eclipse with my friend, we drove around for a straight hour beating the hell out of the motor, blew a piston right out the bottom of the mower leaving a softball sized hole.
how hard did you drive that car man? hah.

Damn man that sucks, just read this for the first time, i had a similar issue, just no fire. I put in a 3.5 in my 4th gen. Drove for a few weeks and on the highway cruising started rod knocking, i slow down and get off the highway and BAM threw a rod, broke the oil pan. I guess your engine leaked so much oil it seized up and broke.
I recommend getting an 00-01 motor, worse case just get a low mile vq30de they are very cheap now days, and the swap should take about 2 days if ur new at it.
like ajcool, note to self, buy a fire extinguisher asap.

If your going to change the motor might as well do the 3.5 swap the motor is not that much expansive, I bought a motor about 2 years ago in one of Brooklyn's junk yard from a maxima that have been hit from behind for 600 with ~40k and 2 years later not problems yet

I called the dealerships to find the prices.
Infiniti Short Block: 3.2k
Infiniti Long Block (Re Manunfactured): 4.7k
Nissan Long Block: 5.3k
I forgot the short block Nissan because I was still trying to wrap my head around the price tags, and that's just the block and the cylinder heads. My advice, unless you got 15k to burn (that's with every single part, brand new on top of the block and cylinder heads) just go to the junkyard.
