Last night my tranny broke i guess

My brother was test driving and when he went to shift to second gear the shifter was very tough and it wouldnt go into gear. Immediately it started clunking badly. So i thought the axle maybe snapped off inside the tranny. So he let out and we parked it in the driveway. Today i took the tranny apart and found that the final drive gear was chewed up, causing the gears not to mesh i guess. sucks.....

That does suck but it sounds like you can fix it yourself so that's a plus. What do you mean by "test driving"?

Ouch ... sorry to see or hear of that mate. Guess this is a sign to go VLSD or 6spd now huh? lol At least you can R+R the trans on your own so you save a ton of money and time right there. That diff is toast for sure though. Might make a good boat ancor? lol

Ouch, never seen that on a maxima before. Last I checked a ring gear and main shaft from nissan was in the neighborhood of $300-350 if my memory is correct, though prices may have changed by now.

I've seen that kind of ring gear damage but not often.

If you can find used gears, you'll need to replace both the mainshaft and the output gear together. Mix-n-match doesn't work.

well, i ran by a few junkyards today. first yard had one for $550. so we went to a u-pull it. Looked around for about an hour, found only 4 4th gens, all autos. As we were leaving the yard, my brother says "hey, theres one" in the first row. Dont know how we missed it. Low and behold.....5 Speed!! Got that sucker for $120. Just finished putting it in a few minutes ago. No more IPS bearing noise (thank god), but the only thing is first is somewhat notchy. But it shifts fine otherwise. Maybe cuz its been sitting for so long, or possibly the cheapo Coastal fluid i put in. 80-90w i believe. But so far so good. $120...heck yeahs

That really scares me because I grinded my 2nd gear twice at once today. I was jsut shifting it into 2nd and it went have way through the sync and then just did not go in so I pulled it again and it went zZZERT like a gear sound. And I can't stand it because it makes me think I will screw it up bad.

Grinding gears isn't what causes this sort of thing. That grinding noise you hear is not the gear teeth themselves grinding.
