Exhaust straight piping.

my maxi's running currently stock piping ( maybe 2" im not sure) w/ three, yes three, cats. i wanna cut em out and go headers back new piping ending in a cherrybomb glasspack. my question is, whats the maximum size piping you can use before you start to lose power/good sound?

Probably 2.5" would be the most. 3" would be too big.

If he does, thats going to sound like complete crap and be loud as heck.
No reason to runa straight pipe on a NA setup...

str8 pipes to a cherrybomb........... ur car will sound like poop!!! it will sound like civic is stuck in ur bumper.... my muffler broke of m ycar.... so i have rite now ypipe to a cat to resenator (same thing wat cherrybomb is except cherrybomb is louder) and it sound like poop!! its gargles and it whines....... only time it mellow when the pipe comes in touch with my muffler.

if you wanna sound like bringggggggg ding din din dinggggggggggggg then do it.

i hvae 2.25 piping, and with the muffler not in tact i lost back pressure... so off the line sluggish but after 80 that baby pulls!!

I put a glass pack on my KA24 and it sounded good. Just make sure that there is no piping after the glass pack. I tried to put the glass pack where the stock muffler was on my hardbody (with the KA24, which is a 4 cyl), and ran a piece of pipe out of the glass pack to the bumper. I started my truck and it sounded like a field of rice. I then removed the piping and glass pack, ran a longer piece of pipe from my cat, and put the glass pack on so it just stuck out from under the bumper, which placed it at the very end of the exhaust system and, WHAM!, it sounded like a lifted truck should.

I believe why people think that glass packs always sounds bad is because the resonator on Maximas is followed by a section of pipe that leads to the muffler, or another glass pack in some cases. if you were to remove the stock resonator, which is a glass pack in itself, and move it to the very end of the exhaust system, I think you would get a deep powerful sound, like I had.

I have stock headers and stock y pipe without a cat and strait pipe without a muffler just a nice tip. I got like 1 1/2 to 2 cars faster and it sounds bad *** at high revs. Its loud as hell. It does sound kind of nasty at low revs. Too much rasp but at high revs is where I love it. And its a 2 1/2 pipe.

I made a thread of my exhaust. I would post the thread but I'm on my blackberry so I can't. Just click on my sn and look for it.

I find it quite hard to believe removing the cat and muffler made you two cars faster. I ran my car with no exhaust after the y pipe install for the heck of it and didnt notice anything but crappy noise.
I saw your vid, and if you think that sounds good so be it, sounded horrible and annoyingly loud to me, but O well. I have a cutout, and it sounds just as just as crappy and loud when opened up, and yes at high revs.

Well belive me or not it did get me noticeable power. I never took it to the track for some time slips of the difference that it made or else I would have posted the times.

If your going to do straight pipe buy the longest 2.5" resonator you can find perferably one made by magnaflow. My buddy put a long *** 3" one on his SR20DET Sentra and it sounded quieter than a full exhaust. But yours being N/A, it may not sound so great.

Do the Y-pipe! You get lots of power from the added efficiency of the air being blown out your exhaust easier (the old air pump engine analogy). Maybe get a 60 series Flowmaster. Those are supposed to sound pretty good.

i had headers, y-pipe and test pipe, with 2.5" piping, and a vibrant muffler. sounds like a cross between a lumina and a 2 stroke. i would not recomend it. i ended up installing a resonator which helped a little. if your stick, you can control the sound a little better cause it sounds relly cool up high.

If you want to know what it'll sound like. it'll sound like DaveVQ's max.
I think. He had the 00 or 01 with the glasspacks right? I didn't like the sound. Sounded like a nest of hornets was attacking his exhaust.

nice car though

irrelevant, nobody cares.

Stock Headers > aftermarket y-pipe > stock cat > aftermerket (not ebay) resonated b-pipes > Stock muffler. That's assuming you want to stay quiet.

if you want everyone in town to look at you as you drive past then ask maxima.713 for his exact setup
if you want everyone in town to look at you in a positive way... do it right -_-

Not totally irrelavant.

However, yes it will sound sort of like Dave's car. He was running a 3" though. He ran a 3" cat less setup, back to a 30" (dont recall exact length, just guessing) cherry bomb to a 50 series flowmaster (I think...).

I was there to see it get installed, and heard it fired up for the first time...loud as hell. Sounded not bad, but it was too raspy for my tastes.

Should you decide to eliminate the cat and put in a glass pack, you're going to increase the noise a LOT, and its going to get raspy at anything below 5K rpms. At 2.5" its going to be a very high rasp, unlike dave's which was a lot lower at 3".

Lol@You

Best and cheap are two words that should not go together,
Search... It's up in the top right by quick links and new posts.
You're not going to find the best headers for cheap.

I ran a 30" cherry bomb with a 60 series flowmaster, it was more of raw sound then raspy. I should've went Dynomax turbo muffler. I was running 3" exhaust and it was loud even for my tastes but was effective in putting down way more hp then some of you guys with bolt-ons and without doing internal work. You may not like the way it sounded but thats what headers do to these cars.

Continue with sarcastic remarks I don't care, I did something that was effective and people were unsure of about making power but it did. I also know of a couple more ways to get more hp out of these 3.0s with just bolt ons.

Function > aesthetics

so thats the kidnof sound i want, raw power, because im unable to get that deep resonant purr that good imports have. can you put 3¨ piping from stock headers w/o losing power?? if possible, ide do 3¨back with no cats, a glasspack where the furthest back cat is right now, and then end it in a good muffler. do u have a sound clip of a dynomax turbo muffler? i just have no diea waht muffler to get...

Unless its tracked and FI, I wouldn't consider going straight pipes on the exhaust. My muffler flange rusted through while on vacation and I spent a week driving around with no muffler. The sound was unbearable and the looks I got were kinda ridiculous. I have to admit +5k the engine sounds pretty sweet, however when you're idling and especially between 2.5 and 3k it sounds like you've got a ton of bees in your car. It hits this one frequency where the entire car vibrates due to the exhaust. For me at least it was completely unbearable to daily drive like this, you also get a ton of looks from dudes in Honda's who wave to you I wouldn't want to be in that crowd
