Electric Cutout install

My plans are to install my electric cutout on the ypipe between the flex section and cat. This way I can keep my cat as well as have the cutout. Assuming that it will fit, which it looks like it will, are there any downsides, other than hacking up the ypipe, to welding the cutout there instead of where the cat goes?

problem with electric cutouts is it freakn gets stuck after several uses and then you end up doing it manually

since then i have learned to stick with just a plain manual cutout

no downside's like everyone said expect it may seize up open or closed. A few people i have know have them my friend's seized on his WRX and he had a QTP ending up just waiting a few days banging on it and it started working.. If you get one get a decent company that makes it and gives you some sort of warranty.. DHM is good i heard my cousin has one from them for about two year's and has a pretty long warranty on it. So you don't wanna get stuck with it open permantly espeically on a N/A car

is anti-seize flamable?
even if it wasn't, it prob just dry out.

had a friend whose wiring got melted or something, so i would take extra precaution properly insulation the wires.

I installed my electric cutout a couple months ago. I bought mine from QTP. I just replaced my cat with the cutout. It's very quiet when closed. I used OEM Nissan gaskets ($15). Also my car passed emissions. A very nice mod.

What do you mean the theory? You mean versus a manual cutout? These are much easier, but not as reliable.

Or do you mean what they do? Why one would use them?

Mine is a QTP unit as well, I also installed it in place of the cat.

i honestly do not know the true purpose behind them, im assumeing it jsut has to do with unresrticitng air flow, but also what is actual gain behind this sort of mod? just freeing some more ponies up im assumeing?

Basically, yes. When it's open, all the benefits of a free flowing exhaust. When it's closed, you can go back to nice, quiet, subtle.

How did you pass emissions without a cat? I guess you didnt do a tailpipe sniffer test?

Nah New York uses the sniffer. Once your engine is maintained it will burn clean. I get nothing but water out my tail pipe.

i have a question and i am open to suggestions. i would like to get a cutout but i want to know if it would matter if i still have everything after the cat or in place of the cat stock? would it matter, would my exhaust still be restrictive?

Why do you want a cutout?

In any case no, it won't matter if you've got the stock exhaust on. Your exhaust will be restrictive, yes, but that's kinda the point of the cutout

i was thinking cutout because the police around here are rediculous. they are very strict on exhaust, and i dont want the added attntion.

Well the cutout will be louder then any exhaust setup would ever be.

i know it will be louder than any exhaust, i am talking about regular driving. i want my stock exhaust on with a cutout so that when i need the added power instead of me having a full exhaust i will have headers and a cutout, so therefore i wont have the exhaust sound while normally driving. (understand what im trying to say now?) i wasnt trying to say that the cutout will be quieter than a normal exhaust, i was saying that on my other car i always get harrased.... exhaust too loud etc.

Your not going to get any crazy extra power from it being NA. With it open, it is super freaking loud,.... like annoyingly loud.
Not sure if it would be a worthy trade off for you considering its gains. I very rarely open mine up, but when I do I can feel a bit of a difference. I chose the cutout because I didnt want to go with a louder 3" exhaust setup for DD.

i agree with you 100%, i just dont want to have a loud exhaust as a dd like you said. i had ws y, test pipe, ws b, and obx knock off greddy sp2 muffler on my dek, it was too loud for me as a dd i got annoyed by it quickly. thats why i am saying i want a cutout.

If you think the minimal gain you will get from the cutout is worth the 200.00+ dollars then go for it I guess. I will see a bit more of a gain since Im boosted.
The reason your previous setup was loud is because of your knockoff muffler. I have a Greddy SP1 and its not very loud at all.
