cruise control always on 1999se
The first mod I ever did to my car was the cruise control always ready one. I use it every day, 10 times a day, and I love it cause I'm lazy. I don't have to turn that annoying rocker switch and then push set, I can just push set.
I remember when I did it a couple years ago the current sticky did not apply to the 99se, its box of relays was different, so I experimented and found the one that worked. I took pictures then, and it wasn't until I discovered those pictures randomly looking through my computer did I remember I was gonna make my own very first DIY. So here it is:
You need: 5 minutes, (2) 1-2" strand of wire, 4 crimp on spade connectors, something to crimp ends, a flat head screw driver
1. Locate the box that has the cruise control relay in it. I used a flat head screw driver to pop it open
2. Use that screw driver to pop off the cruise control relay, (this is a picture of the final product), its the one where you can see two little wires
3. Crimp the 2 spade connectors to each end of your little wires, should look like this
4. Plug them accordingly and you're done!!

That "trick" as ejarmol described it is only for the 99 model. Nissan changed the electrical wiring. On the 95 through 98 models, the ASCD Hold relay (that's what Nissan calls it) is in front of the battery.
Look at the cover over the relays that are in front of the battery and you will see one is labeled ASCD. This is the relay that gets removed. If your car has an automatic transmission, you need 2 jumper wires. If your car has manual trans, you only need 1 wire.

Thanks for sharing ej. Silly question but is the square green light, on the CC rocker switch, always lit up after this mod? I remember this was the only mod Daniel B. Martin did to his Max. lol

Cruise control is definitely a convience for long drives. When you do a 1k mile drive in one sitting, you feel less tired when you are done becuse you are able to "squirm around" in the seat instead of sitting in one rigid position for hour after hour.
And then there is officer unfriendly. Somewhere around the 15th of the month, my local constabulary are out with every last one of their radars trying to fill the city vaults with cash.

Is the "on" switch momentary, resetting with the igition turned off?

Do you have a 99SE?
If not, then don't do it this way.
Which fuse did you blow? Chances are you jumpered the wrong pins of the relay box. Re-check with the how-to for the vehicle you have.

The electrical schematics for the 99 Maxima and the 99 I30 are the same, same wire colors and all.
The one thing that was not pointed out in the op's directions is that he has an automatic transmission. There is a difference between the auto and manual trans in how you would do this mod.
If the car has an auto trans, you use 2 jumpers as shown. If you have a manual trans, you use only one jumper. This is because the relays are different for the different transmission. The auto trans uses a 2 circuit relay with 6 connections where the manual trans uses a single circuit relay with 4 connections.
If you have a manual trans car and use 2 jumpers, you will be shorting out fuse # 12 which is for the ASCD and a few other things.

I can find the button with my eyes closed...seriously.

Never said i could not find it. I said It's more convenient, I also said my bulb was burnt out making it more difficult, not impossible, to find it. It's also in an awkward spot. These are all my opinions on why I did the mod. and like someone said above, is cruise control which is, in and of itself, lazy..so why not go one step further. To each his own.

i30t cruise always ready
Today i finally had time to re-try this mod...when i followed the instructions carefully I WAS able to get it to work. I think i was over thinking the direction the wires should be placed by looking at the relay. Originally I plugged the jumper wires wrong blowing the fuse and of coarse the cruise wouldn't work. What i realized was that relay also controls the windows, to which i didn't find out until the next day when I also discovered the windows can be opened with the key fob and to make matters more exciting, it was raining!
Bottom line this mod works just great with the 99 I30t as well, thanks guys! the relay can join the one in my box from my 3rd gen maxima that went to the bone yard. Now to re-wire my fogs and have the side turn courtesy light on all the time as well....

Small Fuses for Jumpers
Was looking to do this hack but didnt have enough wire connectors.
Was poking around in my supplies and thought might could twist the ends on a large fuse to make it work, but the spacing was too much.
Then I looked at the smaller fuses and seemed just right.
So pushed in two 15A small fuses and did test and works fine.
My relay box had a empty slot to the right so I just flipped over the original cruise relay in case I want to return to normal state.
