Antifreeze Leaking...

Ok, so NOW my car is leaking Antifreeze, first thought is waterpump. I'm an idiot because I filled the damn thing last week and now its halfway gone and just filled it again (not thinking of a leak).

Im going to have it checked but lets say it is the waterpump. Until I get that fixed, (bout 2 weeks) can I just put water in there every few days?

If its leaking around where ur oil pan is then ill say yes its your water pump. you will be ok filling up for a while but i wouldnt take too long in changing it. Also change ur TC tensioner while ur at it.

You can drive on a failing water pump for quite a while without sustaining any major damage. Especially if you keep the coolant level topped off.

Where exactly is it leaking from? Without a location, we can't be of any help...

Pmohr,

Will the coolant go to the oil system through the damaged waterpump seals, and the oil goes to the cooling system?

thanks

Are you talking about a water pump failure or water pump o-ring failure? Completely different, there.

The chances of both o-rings failing is much lower than just the coolant side, meaning the oil and coolant won't mix.

The chances of oil mixing in with the coolant is also extremely unlikely as there is no oil pressure in the open cavity of the timing cover, and the cooling system will be under pressure. This will force coolant out and keep oil from getting in.
