Fuel Filter Replacement Suggestion
Fuel Filter Replacement Suggestion
Edited by Justock 7/31/09:
1) Please ignore the links to the photos, they no longer work.
2) Thanks to pmohr, I have this link which does work... http://forums.maxima.org/album.php?albumid=926
3) After doing a lot more work on my '95 GLE, I found that with a little practice, you can remove the whole plastic air intake assemble in about 5 minutes. You just have to remove a few hoses, connectors, and screws. Then you can get hoth hands on the fuel filter and replace it quite easily. Live and learn! (And ignore the rest of the advice in this post).

After reading several helpful posts on this subject, I came up with my own method for getting the fuel filter off of my 4th gen. If you have ABS it is very tight to get your hands on the filter, especially the lower hose. I worked from the top side. I was able to spin the filter in the bracket to get the clamp screws where a stubby phillips screwdriver could loosen them . I pushed the lower hose off by wedging a disk brake adjusting tool between the filter and the end of the hose. I pushed downward, then spun the filter in the bracket and did it again. I kept spinning and pushing until the hose started to back off. Then I could pull and wiggle with my finger tips until it came off (I didn't say it was easy). With the lower hose off, I pulled the filter out of the bracket, flipped it upside down and brought it up and out into the open. It was easy to remove the upper hose. To assemble, I wiped a little WD-40 on the filter nipples and the hoses slid on easily. It took about an hour. If you have big hands, you can palm a basketball, but you can't change this filter (all men are created equal
)

Hey thanks! I don't have privileges to post attachments yet. Maybe that's why I just got a little box with a red X when I tried to include the pictures. Maybe I'll try to edit them another time.

Everyone can still link them inline, though.
i just replaced mine with a 300z fuel filter(first time). i don't know how long the previous one was in my max but it was spiting out "light brown" gasoline.
the gas that was gushing out of the fuel hose was clear.
after struggling for 15 min. i searched the forum and used a door removal tool => it made things MUCH easier.
also replaced the top clamp with one that i can use a ratchet on.
it took 30 min. and a scraped up left for arm....
next time it should take no more than 15 min...

There are no thread links, so best I can tell he's referring to the links to the OPs gallery in the first post. The URL format for the gallery has since been revised.
