Relocating the trunck open button from driver's door???

I am a bigger guy and when I have stuff in my pocket it pushes the truck button as I drive. Is there an easy way of relocating that button?

I am thinking of extending the wire and adding another small button at the bottom of the door. Another idea is to find the fuse in the box and take wires out of there to a small button on or under the dash.

Has anyone ever done this kinda thing?

Last night it opened 2 times as I was driving. I didn't even hear it the second time which is a problem. Good thing I saw it as I got out of the car.

If you want to put the button lower on the door, then just do so.

Or you could just unplug the button, and use your keyless entry remote or the key.

yea it looks pretty simple to just use another switch and mound it somewere in the door, like inside the sleeve so you know you wont hit it. its just to wires to the switch.
or like pmohr said, disconnect it and use the remote, it still works without the plug connected

I've never understood this problem

Maybe I'm too short and have my seat pushed up too far

Get the other switch from a different Nissan that mounts on the dash like the cruise switch.

Not a bad idea. The L31 has a trunk switch that would fit in our cluster surround...

Any pics of that? It looks like a dealer-only part or from a wrecked yard. I guess I will calling around to see if there is an Altima around these parts.

and that dont look like L31. it is the current Altima (unless they are both L31).

I'll see what I'm gonna do with it. It is a pain though.

Looking back at the site I pulled it from, it's indeed from an L32 (MY07).

Can't seem to find the right pic ATM.

about 5 foot of wire (~$1 at a hardware store) and a generic rocker switch (~$10? at your favorite auto parts store) would run you about ~$15 tops. then the ~1hr of labor to pull off the mod, sounds like a good way to kill some time.

i personally wouldn't bother getting something oem-ish, but if you were, get a fuel door rocker switch from an i30 (possibly others) (kudos oldngivout).

or you could just unplug the wire lol. i mean how often do you get out of your car and need into your trunk in such a hurry you can't stick the key in. i mean...there IS a keyhole begging to be used lol

I actually have that switch and the module/motor to pop the fuel door open as I was gonna add this feature to my 4th gen but got lazy.

The switch is from a 96-98 I30 I believe, its on the right of the steering wheel next to the dimmer dial from what I remember. Not sure if that switch would work but it'd be a decent spot if you ask me.

If you dont have heated seats, you can probably get the heated seat switches, in this case they'd go in front of the armrest where non heated seat maximas have "coin holders"

Get a spoiler. The downforce will close it.

I'm serious. It happens to me a lot too. I just give it a little gas and usually inertia + downforce is enough to close that sucker back up.
