96 gle auto car jerking problem!!

well i got this 96 gle that ive had for more than 2 years now. for awhile now its been doing this jerking motion whenever the auto shifts to another gear. ive changed both the front mount and rear mount, had to take out the crossmember bar to do it. but anyway, i got the mounts both directly from nissan, the front one being the one whith a motor and an electrical connection to it. thought it would've fixed it, but the car still jerks at normal speeds, like when i get off the light. so im asking if someone has an idea of wat it could be. the car has 165,000 miles to it, both motor and tranny are original. ive drained and cleaned out the filter and pan of the tranny and put new fluid. hopefully its not that. but yea i just need some advice on this. oh another thing is now that i turn the car on, the whole car kinda shakes when it turns over, its actually never done that, even with the old cracked mounts. . .

Any codes?

It is slipping then catching between gears, have you noticed anything of the sort?

no codes pertaining to a jerking problem, only code is p1447, which is for the evap system. no transmission codes, as i did the procedure to codes out for that transmission computer, but it showed only as no codes at the time.
also, its not slipping, it does shift right, but when it shifts, the car jerks, its pretty noticable when it does.

I have a 96gle as well, and mine has a hard jerking from 1st-2nd but I'm pretty sure it's due to the 211k miles on it. I did pour in a bottle of lucas transmission fix last year and it shifts a little easier now.

Err...what?

No USDM A32 Maxima ever had a limited slip diff.

Even if it did, it wouldn't cause torque steer.

And he never mentioned torque steer to begin with

dont know were you got that quote from, but im really kinda thinking it is the tranmission, since it is pretty old, i bought the car with 135,000 miles, so its been ran for a good while, oh well, but yea now driving for a while ive seen that it is only hard shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at normal speeds, but when i floor or accelerate really hard, it doesnt jerk at all . . . .

It could be a problem with your torque converter. Some signs could be hard shifts because there could be a low pressure problem and cause your car to shift hard. If you had enough pressure to hold then you would not feel this, ie; when you throttle hard it does not happen. I would check the trans module/valve body that controls the shifts and see if there is a problem with it fisrt here's a link to help. http://www.vqpower.com/v2/readarticle.php?article_id=60

my car also had jerking problems when it shifts, but it only did that after i changed my spark plugs.. try checking your spark plugs, and coil packs too... i removed and re-installed the coil packs, all 6, and it drives better now..

well, it was my problem... iono about you.. and i'd also agree with tdewitt34

i have a 96 gle automatic and this exact same thing used to happen to me. what i did was searched the forum and came across cleaning the iacv and throttle body. i have no mechanic experience, just love my maxima. i tried this on my own, which took me a few hrs. The results are great. It fixed this jerk that it had and the car runs much more smoother. I think this is the answer to ur trouble. TRUST ME.

thanks guys for the info, i got the stuff to clean out the throttle body and iacv, they are pretty dirty, besides that i gotta change the rear valve cover gasket, so ill do that all together, if it keeps doing that, ill check the valve body in tranny, if not then the tourque convertor, would i even be able to get that seperate, also too with the valve body??? thanks

Tranny problem?

I have a 1998 GLE and think there is a tranny problem. The car has 177,000 and is automatic. My problem is; when car is going 5-10 miles an hour and transmission starts to shift, there is a loud clunking noise. Tranny has not been acting up. It does not slip. The noise sounds like an old drive shaft going out when they had u-joints. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
