Angel eyes in stock 4th gen housing (with HID)... ricey or classy?

i'm in the middle of doing a retrofit with A6 bi-x's, and i'm considering adding angel eyes.

NOTE: I don't wanna hear any of that "it's your car" business, because i legitimately need your input on whether or not to get these.

My brother (hvyft) is in a 5.5 gen, and he refuses to get angel eyes. IMO, angel eyes look better on 5.5gens than any other maxima. he says they're rice, and i got to thinking... if my fellow .org-ers think they're rice, what will people in my town think? i want to know the general consensus of what people think, because i could take them or leave them.

anyway, i have 4 options:

make my own (< $10):

eBay 24-LED ring ($18):

eBay glass and LED ($18):

theretrofitsource.com CCFL ($30):

Which of those 4 would you pick, if your vote is for "Classy"?

lol, what do u mean u dont want to hear "its your car" business? Do YOU think theyre ricey? so youre gonna mod your car based on what everyone else thinks? makes no sense to me...

but to answer your question, i feel that it really depends on the aplication. obviously angel eyes on a BMW look sexy, but if you put them in a mini van, idk...

whats the difference between option 1 and 2? either way, i think option 3 would be the riciest one of the 3.

first things first.. if youre doing this in a stock 4th gen headlight housing, and your thinking of doing this.. you MUST paint the OEM reflective part a satin black (like in retrofit pic).. flat isnt enough.. and glossy is just tacky.. So with that said.. now we can talk about the angel eyes.. the thing you want to remember is that you dont want the halo to be brighter than the projector color (thats ricey).. Soo.. I would go with either retrofitsource.com as is.. or the LED ring with something infront of it to emit light evenly.. with All that said IMO then it would be classy and look like it was meant to be there.. ooh btw.. the stock lenses have to be crystal clear (NO haze)

Nope, it would look bad.

MAYBE you can pull them off with R34s, but no way with the OEM housings.

Angel-eyes only look good if there's a pair in each headlight - a single angel eye by itself looks stupid.

The civic in that pic, the 5.5gen, and BMWs all have quad headlights. They can pull it off. A single angel eye wouldn't.

i was referring to options 3 and 4, whats the difference between them? just the little 'housing' that theyre in? they look like the same design tho

imo, the only one i would stay away from is the led one. or if you can show me a pic of them on a car maybe id get a better visual of it.

IMO, it would look good with 2 sets of eyes in each headlight, so a complete retro would be in order for it to look right, just one in each would look like Popeye....

My buddy in a Honda Prelude did it to his stock and it came out really nice! I mean its not ricey at all....... just don't tint them pink or orange, or slap on a spoiler the size of Australia and you won't ever be considered rice in my eyes

The ones in the SI headlights look good. I'd consider those or #2. I was considering it for a while but I dunno if I'm going to re-open my headlights after my retro.

Have you ever done a retro?
The reason they are placed in the center of the housing is for fitment and aiming. The center has the most room. I dont see how you could place it anywhere but in the center due to the base of the projector, not to mention the shape of the bowl.

yeah man.. why would i post something like that if i havent.. ive got tsx/r34.. im sure youre having to cut out part of the headlight anyway for room for the bowl of the projector just cut it in a diff spot.. its all open behind there anyway.. i cut a bunch out on mine

Umm, the bulb holder isn't exactly centered within the headlights. I definitely feel like my projectors are closer to the outboard side, because that's where the 9004 socket was.

As for cutting it somewhere else, no. To mount a projector somewhere else, you need to cut off a huge chunk of the housing and probably do a lot of custom fabrication to make it fit, since the projector will be at an odd angle with the reflector. It's easiest to put it where the 9004 was, because it's the only place where the reflector is perpendicular to the projector.

Then you should know you cant simply cut it in a different spot, well you could but it would be a lot more work. The rears of the housings would need to be fabbed up. There just is no room. Yes you do cut away to allow the bowl to fit in, but its done towards the center section allowing you to open up the hole in all directions. Also, if you place it to the one side vs. the center the outer edges will have to bee trimmed in order for you to mount the base.
Then, once the projector is mounted, you still need some room to aim them and have the ability to go either up or down, and side to side as needed.
Trust me, Ive done a couple of them and I know how tight it can be.
Im running two projectors in a single housing.

cutting is cutting lol.. i understand the complexity.. just an opinion.. theres nothing simple to a retrofit.. its all on what you want and what your willing to accomplish.. im not doubting your knowledge on the subject.. dont doubt mine
