Seat Swapping...

Alright,

Well here is my situation. Ever since I came across a few threads with people modifying G35, 5th Gen, and 350z seats to fit into the 4th Gen Maxima, I have been wanting to do something of the sort. 4th Gen seats blow, plain and simple. Especially when they are plain worn out. BUT, I have an opportunity.

I can get my hands on a pair of 2004 Acura TSX leather seats for extremely CHEAP.

Obviously, here comes the modifying.

If I were ambitious enough, and with some time, effort, and smart modifications, I'm confident that this project would be as simple as bhmax's 350z seat swap.

Link to bhmax's cardomain:

So simply:

Swap out the seat backing and bottom cushion of the TSX seat, and modify it to them to fit onto the 4th Gen seat rails/seat pan.

Any comments? I will exclude those with mismatching seat comments. In reality though, I can live with front perforated and rear plain leather. The only trouble is the black not matching up quite the same. Still, I can live with it!

I highly doubt swapping the seat back and bottom cushion would be easier then fitting the entire seat w/ new rails to bolt to.

If you do get the fronts to work, get an I35 or 5.5th Gen rear bench in black that is perforated. Done. Everything would match. The I35 ones are heated.

Yeah, I also contemplated using only the 4th gen seat rails instead of just swapping the seat bottom and back. I'll have to look into that route, and I like that idea a whole lot better.

The only things I would need to work on is the wiring for the seats, which shouldn't be extremely difficult.

As for the seats matching, I like the idea of the finding some perforated 5th Gen/I35 rears. Hmm...I'll be looking into that one...

Reasons:

1.) Why not!
2.) Higher quality/Better Styling
3.) Comfort
4.) Support
5.) Cost

Good luck on whichever you decide, Im sure it will be a great improvement.
When I did mine, I kept the 4th gen rails and mounted them to the 350z bottoms and backs.
They definately werent an easy swap over, I had to make brackets to make the fit fit together.

Flava, did you take any pictures of how you mounted your max. rails to the seats??

I have G35 seats in mine and thought I was being real slick by modifying the G35 seat rails to bolt in. Needless to say...I spent a ton of time fabricating the brackets and the seats sit too high for my liking even at their lowest setting. Nothing can be done to lower them anymore. So now I am planning to put some OEM Max brackets in there and hopefully make them fit better.

No, I didnt sorry. Basicly none of the holes lined up on the rails to the seat pan. I basicly made some brackets that tied the two together and bolted it all up.
Mine sit a bit low, took a while to get used to it.

ahhh. yeah I was wondering if it'd be as simple as drilling new holes in the pan and bolting them up. All well. I'll fab something up like you did.

Can you use the 4th gen brackets and sliders with the Z swap, since they bolt to the 4th gen pan? It was my understanding that you can bolt the Z seat back and bottom with the 4th gen pan and be done with it. Help please.

i personally would say if you have the time and the will to do the seat swap then go for it. i was lazy i just went with a set of 99 SE-L leather preforated heated seats in the front with the matching rear bench and im glad i did it was a direct swap i just had to run power to the passenger seat and the heat it was pretty easy and nothing like OEM FTW!

Also, is $200 for a cloth Z set a good deal? Thanks!
If it were that esy, everone would have them.
I paid 300.00 for my cloth seats, and then another 500.00 for leather covers.
