Well turns out that my spanking new '99 SE-L's tires are full of dry rot and I need a new set...

Looking for an all season that can deal with some snow as we get a fair bit here in CO

Living in N-NM, I see quite a bit of snow here too .. So, I get my tires by season, i.e. use summer tires for the summer & get dedicated winter tires for said season.

I'm rocking Yoko S-Drives right now. I love 'em.

Go to thetirerack.com. They have tons of information and technical advice, weather you buy from them or not. Plus they have thousands of customer comments about specific tires on specifis cars. I've been using them for over 20 years.

Tire Kingdom.

They will price match tire rack, and you dont have to pay for shipping, road hazard is easier to deal with, etc etc.

Tire Rack is awesome, but Tire Kingdom is just one better.

Go to Discount Tire or Americas Tire ... they price match and the road hazard is a million times better than any other retailer.

Tirerack has more / better / useful information ... BUT, their prices are usually a touch higher. Tirerack's advertising price doesn't include shipping, so, it will seem cheaper. But, in my time of purchasing tires ... discount has always been cheaper.

Tire rack also has the advantage as far as selection is concerned too.

I have settled for DiscountTire/Americas Tire as the best customer service.

Walmart and Costco - it takes forever to get service (leave your car, come back after a few hours).

I tried Costco for one set. What I hate about them is that they do not give out appointments, if you need service. You have to leave your car with them for service (flat repair, rotation, balance etc), and periodically call them to find out if they have your car ready (in Sunnyvale, California, they will not call you back indicating your car is ready). They have taken as much as 6 hours to have the car ready. Their warranty is also not so great - let me explain why.

I bought Bridgestone Potenza's for my minivan from them, with 60 K mile warranty. 10 K miles later, one of them sprang a leak - and since the leak was on the sidewall, it was not repairable. Now, what is very annoying is they base the warranty on the tread that is left on the tire, so they indicated that my tires were 50 % gone, so they gave 50 % off on new tires (they no longer had Bridgestone, so I have to get BF Goodrich).

2 K miles later, another tire sprang a leak in the sidewall (these Potenza's really suck). This time, they decided that my tire was 4/5th gone, so gave me 20 % towards purchase on new tire. This is frustrating, as tires had very few miles - and I guess, the 60 K mi warranty does not mean anything with costco - they will refund based on tread remaining.

America's tire - I love the fact that you can get an appointment for service, show up a the appointed time, and 15-30 minutes later, drive off with the issues fixed.

They also have this "total replacement" with road hazard warranty, that actually pays 100% for the new tire (you have to pay a little bit more upfront for this warranty).

Their service is top rate.

when you go to discount tire or americas tire, try to deal on the price of the complete set with road hazard (they can give a discount, like you pay 2 and they cover 2 talking about the road hazard).

When I got my '97 SE I got a set of Yokohama Advan S4's (Tire rack - Awesome!) which were great in the dry and wet but had **** poor traction in the snow... After 20K miles they're toast!


I know there is no perfect tire for eveything but feedback on what tires are good and I should steer clear of from guys who have my specific car is worth it's weight in gold!

discount tire direct... buy a set of michelin mxv4's... just bought for my 5th gen... $70 mail in rebate from discount tire and $60 from michelin friends and family rebate... cant beat getting a set of michelins for under 450!

Absolutely agree about 2 set's for summer vs winter. You don't wear the same clothes all year - why should your ride?

Find any closeout or sale model that's rated decent (stay away from the FarmFleet bargin names). Take that pricing or TireRack's and run it past local Discount Tire for out-the-door price match. Assuming you' want a 215/55/16 size maybe one of these?

Kumho ASX - DiscTire store pricing is usually $90 installed, $82 tire alone on DTD web. TR's price is $65 or 20% less. DT "can" offer that for $310 incl install & disposal (before tax). That's 14% less than their usual street pricing.

BFG T/A V rated - DT store pricing $107 installed, $97 tire alone DTD web. TR $78 clearance. DT store "can" do that for $362 installed vs $428 street pricing. Then there's that $70 rebate...

I had a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S from Costco on my Altima before it got totaled. Man were they great in the snow and rain! I never hydroplaned or skidding in the rain. I put 40k miles on them when the car got hit.. could have easily gone another 10-15k. I generally look at tirerack.com's tire reviews to find the best performance and go with that. good luck.

I reccommend tirerack. The goodyear assurance triple tread is a great tire in snow with good dry traction. They should be still available

I run 2 sets.

For summer, I have dunlop direzza sport z1 star spec's (need to get a 17 inch wheel to get same overall tire size), I love them tons a grip.

For winter's I run dunlop winter sport M3's, good handling in the snow and on ice.

In my opinion I think it's best to run 2 sets as I don't see why people get a tire that aren't very good year around (read all seasons). My tires have helped me avoid a number of crashes as I have the ability to control my car to a higher level than all seasons would allow when I or others do dumb things...

I got the tire from the tirerack and the wheels off a forum member for cheap.

I research tires on TireRack.com but get them on EBay. Never had any issues.

My current set is Kumho Ecsta SPT 225/45/18.

they did a price match from discount tire.com

if you are buying tires stay away from goodyear eagle rs-a one of the worse tires out there, michelin pilot sports are what i used before and by far the michelins are better.

I have been getting tires for years at a local used shop in san jose. $90 pair 90% tires, installed in 5-10 min never had a issue

I have run a couple of sets of Falken tires - all I can say is that they were good when I got them, but the tread went fast and then they were no better than slicks. Made for a lot of fun in the rain of course.

The GoodYears I just put on are sweeeeetttt. Grip is not an issue. They seem to do well in the wet so far too.

8 years and 5-6 sets of tires....my favorites have been BF Goodrich g-forces

These have good ratings and they are a best seller plus a $40 rebate which should cover shipping. About $117 each. I'm thinking about these personally.

i used to Work for samsclub and they're prices are good and they only had 1 line of snow tires pacemark snowtrackers which are made by goodyear even tho they say pacemark. i had em on my cavilear and firebird which is absolutely horrible in snow and i was able to go through the worst storms in them. I plan un putting them on my max in the winter and use summer tires and wheels in the summer. plus the warente is not bad just complain to a manager about anything and threaten to call home office in arkensaw and they will do nething for you. but a wallmart or sams club should have em. and they're prices arent bad for the 215/55r16 which is prolly what u have if u have the se-l which is what i think i have. i have the 16's 5 spoke i think. but whatever u decide i wish u luck man

I have always run Yokos from Discount since i put on the 17s on right after i bought the car back in 1999.

The Goodyear Triple Treds are AMAZING tires! I had them on my 97. I inherited the same Falkens on my 03 and they are complete junk. A set of Triple Treds will replace them soon.

If you are not totally in love with your rims keep an eye on craigslist and on Ebay for someones take-offs, like from a G35 or M45. Sometimes you can get a set with almost new rubber for around $400. I've seen 18-inch 350Z wheels with nice tires go for $450. Mustang wheels/tires fit our Maximas as well.
