NSA Starter

I need to replace my starter, and I'm looking for a cheaper option

These are cheaper than a rebuilt one and they claim to be made of all *new* parts. Anybody have any experience with this brand?

If youre looking for cheap just go to autozone. Lifetime warranty.

Personally I wouldn't go with a reman/rebuilt unless it's a shop that normally does rebuilt starters/alternators. Certainly not auto parts store reman units.

If the OP's looking cheap I dont see why he cares about what brand.

Well there's cheap short term, and there's cheap long term. If you have to keep replacing the thing (and pay to have it replaced, if you can't yourself) then it'd be cheaper to buy a more expensive, more reliable unit in the beginning.

Gotta factor in TCO.

Replacing it myself is no problem.

I was asking about the NSA brand. What intrigued me was the fact that it was new not rebuilt. I am suspicious of the price ~$115 vs $150 +core for a rebuilt.

Personally I would never buy an Autozone,Pep Boys (Duralast) or recently Napa rebuilt part. I have had nothing but problems with all of them.

Cant we get rebuild kits? Solenoid, brushes, bearings, and bendix? Generally starters are sooo easy to rebuild.

found some here http://catalog.autopartsgiant.com/Sh...+Parts&mode=PA

and here

Just replaced my starter and have a left over hose coming out of the engine that I do no know where it goes. Here are a couple of links to pictures...

I have to post picture links since up until know I have only been a lurker.

Does anyone recognize this hose? Right now I am driving with it not connected to anything. Is this harmful to my car?

Thanks for any help. This site has been great as my 1997 Maxima SE with 187,000 miles continues to age.

The grease in the planetary gear set dries up and makes the starter spin slower and slower as time goes on. Some org'ers have recommended opening up the starter and lubing the gear set. But when I replaced my starter with an Autozone special, I opened it up and added extra lube to the gear set before I put it in. Still works after a year and a half.
