Loose exhaust?

The past couple of weeks, I've been hearing a rattling sound when I hit bump on the road or if I accelerate hard. It is coming from my driver's side. It sounds like it is coming from the tranny/y-pipe area. After a 100+ mile drive yesterday, it has become worse, and even more noticeable on NYC roads.
I jacked up my car today, and inspected my brakes / suspension, and they are fine. Than I got under the car, and bingo. My exhaust wobbles a lot. There is a lot of play with my y-pipe and cat, as well as the thing after that (resonator i think?).
How do I stop this problem? What exactly needs to be fixed?

Probably a hanger issue. There should be a hanger somewhere around the cat. Might need to reweld a new piece.

Have you gone through and looked at all the hangers?

IIRC there's the one in between the Y and converter, then at the first B-pipe curve, then two or three on the muffler itself.

The one near the cat/y connection is a metal bracket with two rubber hangers. That thing probably rusted. I know mine did. I believe I got one from Nissan for like $35. I covered it in rustproofing and then painted it black.

There is another rubber hanger by the b-pipe bend, and four more by the muffler. I'd replace most if not all of those. You can get them at any parts store (the rubber ones).

My exhaust was rattling around and I kind of ghetto fixed it with a clamp right before the resonator on the pipe and the little bar that sits under the pipe before the resonator.

I did a similar fix, but I took two clamps and put one on either side of the little bar and took two strips of 1/8" steel and spanned over to both clamps and took 4 extra nuts and bolted it to the excess threads on the clamps....clunking went away. Cost only about $15 for the repair. I know a new exhaust will be in order, but delaying to save for the new exhaust.

I used hose clamps on my hanger on the B-pipe to stop the rattling from the Budget B (which doesn't clear the gas tank, fyi) and I used 2 on the muffler to position it to the center of the cutout for the tip.

They work great, and are a cheap easy way to fix it.
