What SHOULD parts & labor on the replacement of all 6 Coil Packs cost me?

I think I've narrowed my high-engine temperature surging problem down to the coil packs. I talked to a guy about them today, who gets parts from the Nissan dealer, and "supposedly" sells them at slightly below wholesale, and also says he charges only $35-40/hr for labor. He told me when you need to replace one bad coil packs, either you need to, or it makes more sense to (I cant remember which wording he used) replace all 6 at once. Is that true?

Furthermore...
He told me that the total cost including all parts and labor for replacing all 6 coil packs is right around 600 dollars? Is that reasonable, outrageous, a bargain, or what? I have no idea... but I was always under the impression that coil packs were relatively inexpensive.

Any help would be appreciated as I will be giving this guy the yeah or neah within the next 24 hours, and want to know if he is trying to rip me off. He claims to be the best bargain in town... so is he?

Save some cash and replace the coils yourself. It's really easy! Are you sure that all of them are toast? Seems a little unlikely to me.

They are not thta hard to replace. If it were

my money, I would buy one, and then put if in the #1 cylinder, and see if that makes a difference. If not, put the the old one back in, and proceed to cylinder #2. If it does, then you are finished. If it improves things, but not fully, then you may have 2 bad coils, but I would doubt it. It sure there is a better way than by brute-force method, but for me, time is a lot cheaper than buying parts !

I would have doubts to any mechanic that told you to replace unnecessary items... either it indicates he really doesn't know or just wants to make more money off you...

Replace the one(s) you need only. One would/will not cause the others to fail.

True, when my engine was jerking, i was told by a mechanic that it will be estimated to around $500, considering each coil is around $85. I went home opened all 6 coils up and bought 1 new coil from nissan. Tested each one of them one by one like listed above, and it turns out cylinder# 3 coil was not functioning properly. I replaced that with the new one. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! no pinging after i crank up my engine. I suggest try this method as well.
Good luck,
