my check engine comes on sometimes.....and if the car is driving perfect, leave it, mine went away on its own after about a week. And that has happened for various reasons.

1st time, I had a faulty coil pack, took about 1-2 weeks and light went away on its own after i replaced it.

2nd time, I had to replace my starter (i dont know how this threw a code) and i replaced my starter, and in about 1 week, light went away on its own. It could just be a ghost code and will take care of it self in due time.

no battery is a part of the charging system but in general charging system check is alternator, battery and voltage regulator. Battery does not charge anything so it can't be charging system by itself. Check your alt

Why would you just drive if the code keeps coming and going, something is obviously wrong. I've never heard of a starter throwing a code and I don't think it will by itself. Why don't you check to see if you have any codes?????

ever heard of a ghost code???? my brother (who drives and audi s4) has a CEL all the time thanks to his o2 sensor, nothing is wrong with it, just the way his complete exhaust system (manual cut outs and DP's) are set up throws the code.

So are you implying my car may have other issues? it may though, seriously, but ive kept up with ALL work on my car, and the CEL only came on after replacing the starter, what great timing for the light to come on right?

I have never had KS or o2 problems with my car, yet i tend to get that code alot, and it goes away on its own. Trust me, i've done mine ALREADY, and replaced the same parts for a few fellow owners here on the site.

Basically, i dont think anything is worng with my car...CEL is off MAJORITY of the time.

Same here, I had the spark plug issue and the light was triggered upon driving with only 5 connected plugs. After the plug issue has been rectified, the light remains and still remains for 3 weeks now and maybe at least 500 km of driving.

The code is 05 05

Yes, that is what I am implying. What you describe is not a ghost code. Its called a ghost code because you do not see it, it does not throw SES/CEL light. The knock sensor is a ghost code but the O2 sensor is not and most likely something is wrong with a sensor or its wiring. How do you know your O2s r fine? We don't have audis BTW so its def not the same.

So unless you have mods that will set off your O2 code your car has prob been running in open loop mode if it is from the front O2, rear doesnt effect anything. If its from mods get an O2 sim

Haven't found anybody who can do it for free. Carquest certainly doesn't.

Just put a voltmeter on ur battery terminals while cars running.... should be approx 14V. If that's fine check ur alternator ground. Autozone and advance auto do it free

Thanks. Did the voltmeter check on battery and its 14V.

Nobody in Canada offers free charging check, unfortunately.

This is becoming a soap opera.

OK took it to a garage and mechanic employed a hand-held scanner device, about $250 he said, and he got no codes. I advised that he hit the erase code and it cleared the check engine light. Again after 5 minutes of driving, it came back on. It was no charge, thanks.

I am totally convinced the only issue is clearing this light. But I need to clear it should a real problem diagnosis be missed.

I am told to check the charging system. remember the light only came on after I was driving with 5 sparking cylinders.

OK, just to finish this story, the engine light was legit.

What was causing the issue was the electrical connection assembly needed to be removed in order to access the plug was not engaged or connected properly so rather than replace the piece, a wrap around vinyl cord (hard to explain) was tied and its good till the next plug change.
