starting problem please help!

97 5spd
Yeah I know Maxima brothers this question has been asked a million times

I'm having trouble starting my car. Battery is good everything electrical turns on (headlights, stereo etc..) When I try to crank the car there is no sound or clicking noise or any attempt to start.
My question is it the Starter or Alternator?

Your help is appreciated
Thanks

The alternator has nothing to do with starting.

Well have you done anything yet? Tested the battery, checked fuses, checked connections and cables, tested the starter, tried to jump it manually, manually turned the ignition switch, anything?

We can't help you if you don't at least try to do your own diagnostics.

my fault I always tend to do that...

I'm not to good of a mechanic

I've tested the battery
checked fuses (inside, and under the hood) I didnt find anything
I did not test the starter
what I did do is jump start while some pushing it from behind that worked thats how I got home
and last how do you "manually turned the ignition switch"

Thanks pmohr

I said jumping the starter, not jump starting. And what you described is push starting. Give the signal wire B+, see if it cranks then.

Well why haven't you had the starter tested?

See my ignition switch howto video to find out the last one.

Yes just like Pmohr said you should check the ignition switch, in his video it shows exactly how to do it.

I used to have the EXACT same problem as you, everything electrical works except it won't start, no cranking, no reset of the dummy lights when the key is turned all the way.

What I did was stick some tape into the switch itself just like Pmohr said in the video and just like that, it seems like my problem is caused by the "slop" between the slot on the switch and the key thing-a-ma-bobber.

I'm having a similar problem.
How can I test the starter?
(I had recently replaced the ignition switch, it works for 2 weeks, and now it won't even start, doesn't even make cranking sound and for some reason it eject the CD from the CD player. The battery is fine, light is fine, checked the fuss, the starter was replace a little over a year ago)

You can test it in place by giving B+ to the signal wire, I mention it in passing in my starter replacement video.

That or pull it, get some jumper cables, hook up ground to the case of the starter, clamp the positive on the B+ lug, and arc it to the signal wire input with a screwdriver.

I may have to do a video on this.

Pull the starter and took it to Kragon for testing and was told that it's fine.
But something weird happened, when I put the starter back in, the car started, but the "O/D OFF" light in the panel is on, and when I fire up the engine or shut off, there's now a weird wussing noise.

Please help!
