How serious is this exhaust issue?

Hey everyone, haven't been around here in a while... but I used to be pretty active in the forums. Anyways, yesterday I was driving my car (1997 Maxima SE Manual) and I could smell a faint amount of exhaust INSIDE the car, and I'm pretty sure it was coming from my car, since the windows were closed. It was also slightly louder than usual (enough that I noticed that it was louder), and was a little "sputtery".

Does this mean that I will probably have to get a whole new exhaust? Does anyone have any ballpark price ranges for a whole new OEM exhaust, and also the price for just a new OEM cat-back exhaust?

Thanks!
Shawn

First... check where the leak is coming from. Get under the car and look. Then we can give you a more detailed answer

Some people have used Seafoam to check for leaks. Like after you pour it into the brake booster and your car starts smoking you peek under the car to see where smoke is coming out of and that should be your leak.

But I personally have never done it before
