Hids Flickering?

question just got new hid's installed and when there being turned on it flickers for like 10secs then it stays on, anyone had this happen and know whats causing this, thx

when both the hids flicker its also causing the aftermarket headunit to flicker to but once hids stop flickering, the radio is fine

can it be the old battery?

If the battery is old that could be the problem, if it is burning up up there in NY check the battery fluid level. If your kit is aftermarket that could be an issue, if it is an oem kit then check your ground connection. When I had my hids grounded to the frame it would flicker but once I connected a ground straight from the battery it stopped doing it.

Could be a grounding issue, could be your alternator going out, or it could be that your factory harness isn't up to the job. Get a harness powered directly to the battery.

did you disconnect your neg battery terminal while installing the HID kit? if so make sure you tightened it on well enough and theres a good connection. especially if the battery is "old"

That is the process .... lmao! All HIDs do this, it's a gas that ignites and it warms up to operating temp at the 10 sec mark.

Normal ....

edit: sorry ... I'm a tard, just re-read the OP. It may be a battery issue, or a harness issue. You can test the alt a couple different ways. Easiest is to go the the parts store and ask them to do it on the spot - most can / will.

I was told that if they are aftermarket, to buy a relay kit and hook your hid's up to it. It will draw straight from the battery rather than the electrical system. They are only like $25 and would more than likely solve your headunit flickering issue to

dual beam HID's come with relays built into the bulbs. i determined this while troubleshooting my kit. its only possible to wire in a relay on single beam HID kits.

But they're still drawing power from the factory harness which is a no no. The relay only acts as a switch to tell your bulb to start drawing power from the battery...........shouldn't matter if its a single beam HID or not.............

mine are wired directly to the battery, they only receive power on signal and high-low beam switch signal from the harness.

it also seems to me that it would be a PITA to wire it to dual beam bulbs, youd most likely need 4 relays.
