Headers?

This decission, I have been told, is decided by pure preference.
I am in the market for a Y-Pipe and a Cat-Delete. I have found a Y-Pipe for pretty cheap through a worker at my shop. He is also selling his pair of headers for only $50 more.
My question is should I buy the headers, and do all the extra work?
Is it worth it? Because I know Maxima's have pretty decent flowing manifolds and also there pretty tight to swap out.

Let me know if you have done it before, and if it was worth it.
I know these headers have a slightly larger diameter than the manifolds but the manifolds are so short im not sure it even matters.

Thanks for any and all imput.

John,

It would help tremendously if you told us the brand of the ypipe and headers. For example, if you're getting Cattman headers for an additional $50, I'd say go for it. Anything else I'd pass and just go with the ypipe.

Generally, unless you're going ***** out, the headers aren't worth the extra expense and installation headache IMO.

And don't do the cat delete, all your doing is polluting the environment for a measly 1hp if that.

FWIW, I have Cattman headers on my Max, but I have an "all or nothing" kind of attitude with my Max. Love my headers.

yea im with wizard on this. i have cattmen headers on my car to and they are great. but they were sort of a pain in the a** to put in. so if its just some ebay stuff i would just go with the y pipe. as for the cat i have a ebay high flow cat and it works fine.

I too was wondering the same thing, and I decided if I was going to get headers, they would be Cattman, but I just cant afford them right now, but when I do, it's on. I wouldnt get those cheap headers. I hear its totally not worth it with the installation procedure.

from what i heard headers are an 8-9 hour install for someone with average automotive skills, but the y pipe is a relativley simple install. The hardest part would be the bolts to the cat because they are usually pretty rusted. You can pick up a " test pipe" off ebay for around $25 shipped and that will solve that problem.

Also depends on what year 4th gen. Some of the 99's were 'cali' spec and had the forward pre-cat moved into the front bank manifold (this how mine was). Save up for cattman, or spend it else where.
