sometimes when i go to start my 95 auto max it doesn't want to turn over like the battery is dead or something, but the lights and everything are strong. if i mess around with the gear shifter for a minute it will finnaly turn over, this only happens once in a while let me know what i can do to fix this problem.
thanks

Sounds like the shift lock system which prevents the starter from engaging in gear is the problem. Make sure you are completely in Park or Neutral (or just Neutral in a 5-spd).

Sound like an auto-magic ??
Its probably your shifter not totally engaging into park and the shift lock thing, like mikey brought up, and it wont let the car turn over...

have you had any tranny/engine work done recently ??....this happened to my friend and his cherokee when he had his new engine put in

yeah I had that problem in my 91' GXE. It was a little bent piece in the shifter assembly. Take it apart and take a look and if it's bent you'll see what I mean. It happens from slamming it into park. It's funny because my dad drives an old 88' cherokee he has every now and then, and it has the same problem.
