???Throttle Body Cleaned....Now Higher Idle RPM 600 to 900
Today, I tookk the TB out and it was McNasty
I also remove the flap inside the throttle body and cleaned it as well.
Before TB cleaning, I was idling around 600 rpm.
After TB cleaning, I am idling around 900 rpm.
I didn't touch the throttle cable or the CC cable adjustments.
Not sure why it increased by 300 rpm
My Max runs fine, I am just confused why the switch in rpms.
Has this happened to anyone else?

The gasket seemed to be in good condition...no I didn't have one before cleaning. I ran the car for about 20 minutes, highway and back roads.
Is it going to hurt anything idling at 900?
Since you mentioned new gasket, I am a little
and I probably should
myself if this would cause it.
I went out and found a hose clamp for a vac hose on the intake collector box. This could be an issue, but I am not sure it this will solve it. My rpms dropped down to 800 now, but still not to the normal 600.

Thanks for the help.
One more question, will everything be ok with the engine idling high?
I changed out the gasket and it still is idling around 900 rpm
Before I changed out the gasket, the idle would rev to about 1200 rpm for about 30 seconds then drop to 900 rpm.
Now, when I hit the gas (at a stand still) to about 3000 rpm and let off it has a steady drop to 800-900 rpm.
I am
about the removal of the delay back to idle, but still
why it is hanging around 900 yet.Oh yeah, after cleaning out the TB, I noticed there was a little daylight showing through the port and the valve in the closed throttle position after cleaning, would this cause it to rev higher at idle?
There was so much junk around the valve before and no daylight could be seen, could this cause the car to idle lower than usual (meaning usual as being 900 rpm)?
I really don't know what the optimum idle rpm should be for a 5sp Max? So if there is, does anyone know what it should be, or am I just

mine idles around 800rpm. altough i dont know if thats anything to go by, at one point it was at 400, then my car wouldnt run and i was stuck somewhere so i had to adjust to idle at 1500. after a nice tune up its at 800 now.
Although that is high, ever thought about that the TB cleaning did it? In other words, the TB plate at full stop (closed) still has some air around it going in. If that 'slit' that let the air go around was completely filled with dirt and grime, then you clean it and more air gets in.
Not sure if thats enough to warrant 300 rpm increase, but yeah...

Today, I also replaced the fuel filter and the PCV valve (lots of junk in it) and it seems to have helped a little. The idle seems to have dropped another 100 rpm (to 700 or so)
I am now getting a little drop-to-idle delay like before
when I didn't initially change the TB gasket. So far I still haven't messed with any idle adjustments. I cannot find the one off the IACV or whatever that is? I have been searching and there really is no good image of this adjustment in any of the threads I checked.....looked for about 2 hours.
I think before trying to idle adjust, I am going to remove the air intake again and loosen the two screws holding the TB plate and let the plate center itself in the TB housing. (I don't think I did this, or even think this would make a difference at first....but it might.)
Oh yeah, when replacing the fuel filter....I removed the fuel pump fuse and started the car to remove the pressure in the line.....yeah, there was still pressure there....
....pi$$ed all over me!!!!!!! Talk about a
.
Tonight, I took the car out for a quick run and noticed my idle went back down to normal.
With all of the
and freaking out, my car is now finally idling back at 600-650rpm. WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY IDLE ADJUSTMENTS.
I think with all of the replacement parts and the cleaning I did will pay off.
I am really temped to clean out the egr tube....yeah, I should have done it while I was cleaning and replacing all the other parts, but am still figuring out how to perform this task through the search of previous threads.
Thanks again for all the help
and all the
&
others gave me with this issue....it was well deserved.

All I've read on this forum is how to adjust the idle using the IACV or reset the TPS by temporarily unplugging it.
I just plugged the tps back in and left it. From my experience, the ecu self adjusted the idle...pmohr told me to just leave it and the car would recognize the air flow variation with a clean TB.
High Idle after cleaning
Have looked through stickies and have found numerous antecodes for high idle after cleaning throttle body. I recently replaced both front and back valve cover gaskets, cleaned throttle body, replaced TB gasket, cleaned IVAC, cleaned EGR tube, replaced manifold gasket, gas filter, and now car idles high. Today in warm weather (70), in park it was ithe idle was around 1100, then sometimes it will adjust down to 700-900. At a cold start it idles around 1100-1200. Before cleaning idle was 600-700 when warmed up.
Need any opinions about what course of action I should take. I have read about disconnecting the two sensors on Ivac. Checked all lines and everything seems to be just fine. It has been over a month since cleaning. It is annoying to break when car is idling around 1100. I have to shut-off car in drive sometimes, eo idle will not exceed 1800. Thanks for all your help. Car runs better since thorough cleaning, however high idle is the problem. It does not do it all the time.

Have you tried to properly set the idle? If you properly and completely cleaned out the IACV, it's unlikely that you got the idle adjustment screw back in in exactly the same place it was before.

experiencing high to low idle in park
Hello, I am a new member to your forum and have attempted to find answers to the problem I think i created, but with no definate answer as of yet. I hope someone can point me to the right direction. My car, 1998 maxima v6. I thought it was time to tackle the valve cover leak that the engine has. So i planned on taking care of this and other issues that i had with the car since i was going to be removing the upper intake plennun. this is what i took care of
replaced vc gaskets & intake plenum gaskets
replaced all fuel injectors
replaced spark plugs
replaced throttle body gasket
cleaned egr tube ( top end only)
upper plenum was soaked in simple green and cleaned
replaced two coil packs
replaced fuel filter
replaced cracked dried out vac. lines
*****removed throttle body & dipped in ultrasonic cleaner****
before i started the work, the car had been running fine the way it was but after all this work i did, the engine now has high idle @ 1100 rpm. the car will not rev past 3600 rpm. it will rev to 3600 rpm then come back down and back up again on its own while i am pressing on the gas. whats causing this?
here is what i think might be wrong. i removed the throttle position sensor that is mounted on the throttle body but i marked the stock loctaion so i could put it back in the same position when i reassmbled every thing. could this be causing my issues? by removing that TPS, did i screw something up?
I did reuse the same egr tube gasket. the one i purchased was not correct one. I have searched for cracked vac lines and have also verified all lines have been correctly placed in their original location.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
