Exhaust Question's / Suggestions

So i got a new maxi, and it has 2.5 exhaust all the way, it has a y-pipe, some piece of crap resonator red in color, and some crappy muffler and it sounds loud... the car doesn't seem to pull as good as it should, i am guessing it has something to do with the crappy exhaust set up. Oh and one of the studs is missing on the y-pipe to headers connection... but it doesn't seem to leak, 2 out 3 screws holding. Oh yeah and the cat is gutted btw.

So i picked up a muffler from the cat to the muffler from the junk yard in good shape.... Came from a 98 maxima. It has a smaller muffler than my other 95 has.. so my question is, did 97 and up have a different muffler than the 95's ?

I want to put the stock muffler on but i want to be sure this is stock.

I think i will keep the gutted cat and the y-pipe and then have the rest stock, should gain my back pressure back... hopefully.

It should be fine. The exhaust is the same on '95-'99s except that the '95-'96s have the O2 sensor in the cat and the '97-'99s have the O2 in this little piece of pipe called the S-pipe right after the cat.

Yupp they used it as a resonator which is probably worn out by now since they only last about 6 months.

Might be a stock replacement, but it doesn't look like it's for a Maxima.

Then grab it and install it. It should bolt up just fine.

isn't back pressure a bad thing?........I would think you want your engine to breathe easier. I just put on a new cat back and I am still getting about the same mileage and a little better performance off the line....yeah it is aftermarket too.

backpressure isnt something u need to consern youself with.

I would say that exhaust is deff aftermarket b/c its all welded together. As far as i kno the stock parts are 2 seperate pieces.

I have a cherry bomb resonator and magnaflow straight trough muller its all 2.5 inch, Its a bit loud but its sounds pretty aggressive and besides i welded it together my self so it don't look nice but its on the budget I would't go back stock

I just bought a bolt on 304 Stainless Steel catback system for $372 (with shipping) and it was an easy replacement from stock.
