Cleaning Wheel wells??
Cleaning Wheel wells??
Hey Everyone,
I think Tommorow I am gonna do a full cleaning or at least as much as I can if I get the time. One THing I was thiking about was after doing like a wash, polish, wax was the wheel wells. They always look miserable since obviously always dirty. Since they are very visible even after cleaning the car they can drag down the look. So what I was wondering is it there wasa way to clean them and keep them clean or even since my Max is black giving them a painting.
What I did not know about the painting is if I should just use regular black spraypaint or something different? Also would it even stick there or just come off in a day or two?
Thanks for any advise.

Keep them clean by hosing them out every time you wash your car. Use a little simple green up in there as well. Brush out any heavy dirt with a soft brush. Then to finish the job, after you rinse the car off, spray the entire wheel well with Armorall or some kind of Tire Shine product. Keeps them looking nice and black and doesn't make the gap so noticable. Do this before you dry the car so any overspray will be wiped away with your towel. Also spray Armorall on the dust covers on the shocks/struts, keeps them from drying out and splitting.
If you paint it you will have overspray, wear a nose mask bc you will inhale the paint, try to do this when it is not windy may want to tape up the outside fender wells and i use the cheap paint something like 90 cents or so good luck

Yea, get some Simple Green and do a little scrubbing and hose it down. If you plan on painting, I remember seeing some underbody paint that also deadens a little road noise. You might wanna check that out.
Do't use pait, use "Undercoating with rubber", or "rubber undercoating", etc... It should be available at any Canadian Tire, Walmart, or Pep Boys, and protects against rust and stone chips, deadens road noise, and gives your wheel wells a clean appearance.
I'm about to do the same
I just finished sound deadening the interior(floor, C-pillars, rear deck, and rear doors). I'm about to put on my new wheels and wanted to spray the wheel wells before I mount the wheels on. I used Dupli-Color Bedliner, Great Stuff minimal expanding foam, and undercoat rubber spray. I raammatted a lot of the metal and plastic parts of the interior and now, I just hear the noise from the wheels. I'll post my results in a week with the wheel wells.
DO NOT USE !!!!
Rubberized undecoating.. that is for protecting "underneath" your fenders where you can not clean and where water is able to sit and rust away the metal. it is not intended to make your fender liner look any better. It may look good at first and you can wash it.. but it is a rough texture and over time it will collect the dirt and will not come out. All you would need to use is some simple green as said before and some cheap black spray paint. Body shop's call this "blacking" out the fender well. that is all they use when they paint a car and they have overspray...they just use FLAT balck spray paint and paint it...like new.
Just my $ .02
Just my $ .02
there are clips with screws along the edge of the fender.. take these out. Inside of the fender, on top.. there should be some sort of push screw and bolt.. just take all of these out ond it should come out. if it seems like it is stuck somewhere, probablly a bolt holding it in. do not rip it.. these are expensive.
Do a huge burnout like I do, and then you will have made your own "rubberized undercoating". I dont even worry about my front wheel wells because there is so much burnt rubber under there that it covers up all the dirt really well already. As for the back wheels, I guess you're gonna have to do a RWD conversion :-)
