So today I was driving to school in the fast lane stuck behind one of those people that drive slower in the fast lane then the slow one, so they finally moved of the lane and I started accelerating, not even hard acceleration and all the sudden I heard a sound that made my heart drop, it sounded like someone had a soda can with change in it and was shaking it when I hit the gas. So I pulled over and when I put it into neutral I could tell something was wrong, I got into the breakdown lane next to the fast lane because I couldn't make it to the other side of the highway. After turning my car off I was going to try and bring my car a little closer to the barrier and it wouldn't go into 1st 3rd or 5th and I believe reverse also, same if the car was off. So my question is, could anybody diagnose this so the repair shop doesn't try and rape me with some b.s. diagnosis, and an estimated cost for 80$ per hour. Also there was no fluids leaking and the car still went into 3rd and 4th, this was rebuilt about 20k miles ago by krrz350, but he didn't replace the synchro's.

My guess is that something broke internally and the piece of material is blocking the shifter.

Depending on what broke it may have nothing to do with the recent rebuild.

I agree with Dave. Sounds like a catastrophic faliure. Could be a number of things. The trans will have to come out and be popped open to know what is going on. Could be that a detent spring broke or a peice of the MS or IPS could have come appart. Pmohr posted pictures for me of Merlin's 5mt that blew up. Ouch! Can't find them right now ... you can search if you wanna see them.

Time for a 6spd swap I'd say! FTW!!!!

 

Definitely sounds like something broke off if it's making a noise like that. Good luck!
