MAF differences
MAF bench test?
I'm bumping your thread so hopefully you'll get an answer, but really I'm posting a question here since I'm El Newbo and am unable to. 1,000 pardons.
I pulled my MAF sensor after getting the P0100 code, cleaned it (wasn't dirty), inspected it (looks fine, even inside the side plate) and have called 10 shops to see if I can take it in for a bench test.
Everybody says no, that it has to be tested on the car. Well, the car isn't running and I'd really know the part is bad before spending the money on a replacement.
Is there a reason it can't be tested on a bench?
Also, is cleaning a California EGR valve a problem compared to 49 state versions? I can't find any good instructions here on testing/checking the EGR valve ... woe is me.
Thanks guys, great forum here. This is my third Max and it's the only time I've had to do any repairs that required forum help -- damn good cars.

Did you clean the MAF properly with spray cleaner? There's a testing procedure in the FSM, EC-110 is you want to try that. As for the EGR, look in the stickies at the beginning of the forum. It's in the How-to.
