'96 Maxima - Sound System Will Not Work.

Hey all,

Thanks for reading.

I have a '96 Maxima, and none of the sound works anymore. It worked for a long time before that, but now, nothing is coming out.

- The fuse is perfectly fine.
- After testing the power in the back speakers, it reported that they're getting no power.
- The CD player does turn on and "plays" CDs (song length is counted e.g. 0:01, 0:02, etc.), but no sound comes out of the speakers.
- The radio also turns on and you can tune to stations, but nothing comes out (not even static) or any sound whatsoever.

The original speakers are not in my Maxima anymore, as I replaced them with other speakers. The speakers I replaced them with did work for a couple of weeks (sound came out of them) when playing the radio or a CD, but now there's nothing - no power going to the speakers.

Any hints/tips/tricks I could do to fix this?

Again, both the CD and radio are working, but it's the sound system that doesn't work (no power), and I'm definitely baffled over here.

x.x

Thanks if so.

Secretscenario,
I think this has been covered in the forum before. The speakers you replaced, were they 1 ohm bose and are you useing the original amps? It may be you blew the replacement speakers or the amps went out. Either way, keep Bose speakers with Bose HU. Don't mix and match because you may eventually have a problem (could work initially as some have said in this forum).

You may also want to refer to the audio forum.

I'd say your HU is good but your speakers/amps/wire harness is the problem.

Bose or non-bose?

Im guessin u had Bose, cuz if u had the stock system then the speaker would still work. There isnt much that wd cause the speakers not to work unless the HU is crapped out.

If u had bose and swapped out all the speakers but kept the Bose HU then thats not a good idea. The HU and speakers play at different resistance levels. It would work for a lil bit but after awhile u wd fry the speakers. And actually the system itself would have low volume even when turned all the way up.

U cant use the BOSE HU with anything else but BOSE Speakers...period.

U need a new Aftermarket HU and new speakers it sounds like.

Thanks for the help.

What does HU stand for, if you don't mind me asking?

I did have the original speakers, but they were replaced with some weird brand, which probably did fry like you stated. Would I only have to get Bose speakers and replace them to get the sound on everything working again?

Thanks. x.x

HU = Head Unit (cd player). Those bose speakers have an odd imedance, something like 1 or 2 ohm. Non-Bose should work as long as they have the right impedance. And youll need to retain the factory amps.

I think the impedance is 1 ohm. Im not sure. SEARCH da org or ask in teh A/V sections.

Not sure if u can find BOSE speakers or 1 ohm Aftermarket (AF) speakers. BOSE is funny like that man. And even if u do find the BOSE, try to get new. 13 or 14 yr old BOSE speakers man...

If you gonna put in AF speakers then put in AF HU too. The FSM shows how to do it. Jus buy the wire harness for nissan maxima
