stripped bolt on compression rod bushing clamp *pic*

OK, so I bought a new bolt, but it will not tighten because the inside of the bolt hole is also stripped...any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Well nothing has broken..yet.
By nearest thread pitch size, do you mean the next size larger?

You could also weld in a stud and use a nut.

Drill and tap it is then. Take the old bolt to the hardware store with you. They have a gauge that can tell you what size and thread it is. Then just get the next size or two larger drill bit, tap and matching bolt. Get a Grade 8 bolt if you can.

I had the same problem on my 3rd gen 2 years ago, I went to the hardware store and got a tap and die and also got bigger bolts. Its got some nice meaty high grade bolts in there now, cant recall if they were gold color or black but they were the more expensive ones

Sounds like a good fix if it's been 2 years. The gold ones are zinc plated for corrosion resistance.
