catalitic converter

Has anyone had to replace their stock cat? One of the hangers has rusted off of mine and I think the whole cat will be next. I hate to ask, but, how much is one?

100 only? That sounds really cheap. Where'd you get it?

Stock cat's from a dealer are rediculously expensive. Buy an RT cat or a universal. I think i saw one in Summit Racing catalog for like $59 or something. i dont know how good it is, but i am sure it will work.

Re: catalitic converter

If you need a replacement cat, I have my old stock cat sitting in my closet that I could sell you. I took it off at ~30K miles. It's in fine condition, I simply removed it to install an RT cat (power upgrade...yeah right...maybe a tiny bit but it works fine so there's no sense removing).

I can sell you my stock cat for $25 if you'll also pay shipping. The thing is absolutely fine. I'd be happpy to finally get it out of my closet.

Oh yeah, I have a 97, so the cat does not have the threaded hole at the rear for the O2 sensor that is needed for 95/96s. Mine will also work for a 98.

How important is the Heat Shield on the cat? I noticed I am missing mine but wanted to find out if I really needed one or not.

it's your call. they can come loose and rattle which is a pain, so I took mine off. but someone on the forum had a good point that if you take it off and park in a dry grassy area when it's really hot, something could catch fire.
