No, it's the same for all nissans made around the same time.

Search and you'll find the directions.

And one final word of advice, don't make the same mistake I did... In my 5spd the key lock is broken, so I can remove my key in any position. Make sure BEFORE you start the insert/removal key process that the ignition is turned all the way back (counter clockwise or towards you).

FOB Failure!!!

Ok, sorry to thread jack or what not, but Ive been trying to program my fob for almost 2 days with no success. Ive searched my butt off trying to figure out what was wrong with it but no real luck. So heres the problem i went thru the process, and the hazards flash after insert/removing the key a amount of times. but then when i press the lock button on the remote no flashers.

then i tried a few minutes ago, to set the alarm off. but no success. did the lock the doors with the window down and nothing happen but the lights came on, no blaring horn and flashers. I checked all the fuses i know would be connected with the alarm( i think ). And i even changed the battery in the fob. Still no success. x-(.
SO CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!

I always start with a new battery in the keyfob and then follow the directions to reprogram...it's been awhile but I'm sure they are in the stickies.

Found this in an earlier post. See if this helps. I've programmed 4 key fobs for my 98 SE this way.

YEa.....

yea those are the same instructions i tried the first time. didnt work.
Maybe my remote is likely to be dead or defective. cause it flashes the first time when entering the key all those times, but when i press the button on the remote it doesnt cause the flashers to flash.

Do you have an OEM fob?

if not, do you have the one pictured below?

If so, then it S U C K S, I have this one currently and it's pretty much useless as a FOB you have to be within 10 feet of the car for it to be even semi useful, and it doesn't work half the time when you are within 10 feet anyways, I suggest buying another FOB if you have the one pictured above.

Also again, make sure you turn the key all the back to the "Lock" position every time you leave the car.

YEa

Yea i have the original one, i think, its a 4 button remote, no right angles, huge blue lock button and nissan stamped on the bottom.
How can i test to see if its defective?
how can i troubleshoot the alarm system? like i checked all of the fuses and i tried the "breaking" into my own car thing.
The alarm didnt even sound.
I heard there was like a reset button in the trunk or something?? or a module?
I really want a fob!!lol
and i hate to have to buy something i already have.

I have a 99 and my key fob doesn't work. I tried a fresh battery and reprogramming it but nothing happened. I wonder if it's the BCM module.

I just went outside to try it again with a fresher battery which read 3.17v and it was thicker but I managed to get the lid closed. My hazards don't flash and my interior door lights are flickering. Time to start investigating.

No, sitting in the drivers seat it would be in front of the gear shifter under the radio, under the trim. It's easy to get to.

Click on this link:

It's the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for 1999 maxima's and then go to the EL section and you can see lots of info about the BCM including troubleshooting etc.

When I bought my 99, I didn't get an alarm FOB, but I have all the components listed in this thread... I'll be looking at getting a couple of FOBs and programming them, all of your information should help me.

i had the same problem too.
turns out when you insert and remove the key 6 times the key in "sensor" did'nt get all 6 of em.
so what i did was leave the key in. remove the bottom panel steering wheel cover and connect/disconnect the key in wire 6 times. and it worked.

I see the picture, but your description leads to the ECU....

Can you give me an idea of how I can identify the wire?

on the 5th gen you have to start the procedure by locking the doors using the drivers side switch and then you can do the key in 6 times in 10 seconds part. I thought i remembered having to do this on my friends 4th gen a while back. Maybe something to try

i think that's what i did. was lock the doors first.

but the wire i believe is yellow with another one. sorry i dont remember.
but what you can do is remove the cylinder key cover and the cover under the steering wheel. it's the only wire that's exposed and easy to disconnect.

I know it's an old thread but for those looking for the Body Control Module it is located in the trunk. It's plugged into the antenna on the passenger side and it's held in place by one bolt. You just remove the bolt and slide the module downward and the module pops right out. Then just unplug it from the antenna. I lost my FOBs and when I purchased a 97 I30 for a parts car for my 96 Max it came with 2 FOBs.I just swapped the BCM to avoid the hassle of programming 2 FOBs. I have the old BCM module if anyone needs one. The 2 OEM Infiniti FOBs work great. They both worked even thought the i30 sat for 8 years. I changed the batteries even though they still worked just to avoid an issue on the road.

Sorry, you're incorrect. What you are referring to is the Multi-remote Control Unit. Think of it as a glorified antenna for the keyfob. It receives the radio frequency signal from the keyfob and converts that into voltage signals that it sends to the Body Control Module.

The Body Control module is in the passenger compartment, on the so-called transmission hump between the ECU and the transmission shift lever. If the car has an auto trans, the BCM sits on top of the Transmission Control Module (TCM). Standard shift cars do not have a TCM.
