Surely this has to be a coincedence

So about two weeks ago I put a new starter in the 98 GLE I have. As many may know you have to remove the entire air intake system to get to the starter. Any way after I got the starter and everything else hooked back up my check engine light came on with an air intake sensor malfunction. Come to find out its stuck at reading -115 degrees and now my car is running super rich and I am getting about 240-260 a tank of gas.

Surely it cant actually be broke right? I checked to make sure I didnt leave something unplugged or that something was plugged in upside down. But how would it conveniently start to malfunction when I replaced the starter.

It's unplugged. That sensor is on second pipe down, near the bend at the back.
It's a PITA to see.

It shouldn't... but indirectly it may by reading the 'wrong' or no value to the ecu with it being unplugged

IIRC the IAT sensor is only diagnostic like the ERG temp sensor, but when they are unpluged it causes CEL and problems. my IAT was hanging for 4 months, then i modded it into my shortram and nothing changed.

The IAT can hang anywhere in the bay with little or no consequence, and if you wanna clear the codes get a screw driver and reset them on the computer.

FWIW, the battery has to be disconnected for 12+ hours to clear the codes in the ECU.

Well it has to be related to the IAT because as soon as it popped up (ie after the starter install) I went immediately from 350-380 per tank to 220-250 a tank so unless some massive clog developed over nigh in the MAF..............................Im just saying.
