HELPP!!! WHATS GOING ON?!?!?!

today i decided to change my oil, its the first time ive ever done any actual work myself...but i figured I read enough on this forum over the years to be able to do it. Anyway...I wanted to make sure the engine was completely clean of all the oil because i havent changed it in about 8000 miles...so I grabbed the pressure washer, and cleaned my engine...and ran water through it until it ran clear through the drain plug. I put on the new filter, and added the oil...but when I started the car its smoked and shut off. Now I cant get it to start at all. Help!! what do i do?!?!

bro,, your engines done............ thats the worst thing to do to an engine, its better to have sludge in your engine than pressure wash it. If i were you start looking for a new engine... does it even start?

You killed it too early, and yah the humor has definitely dried up here since I first joined, but then again the n00b question level has spiked @ an all time high recently...

I dont think that was a good idea at all. You shudda just let it sat there and drain. I have heard that people sometimes start the car for like 15 econds for more oil to drain out, but never heard of spraying water in there.

what u should have done was to spray like 10 bottles of brake clean in the oil filler hole and let the car run for like half an hour.. that way the brake clean will clean out the old oil

wow, I should be selling stuff here. Some of you guys will believe anything.

and for what its worth, a person prolly could run a gallon of water thru during and oil change with negligible adverse effects.

water and oil wont mix, and without the engine running, none of the oil will get into the oil galleys. Furthermore, any residual water will quickly evaporate.

in theory

This was pretty funny

I read the OP and was like, u gotta be kidding.

On a serious note tho...i have hrd of ppl flooding their engines while going thru a puddle. Now this wd not be as worse as pressure washing the inside of an engine...but given time to evaporate, Shdnt the engine fire up again once all the water was dried and oil was added??

Are you on city water or well water? Remember to never clean out your engine with well water unless you have a water softener because it can lead to calcium deposits.

that is not flooding the engine, that is hydrolocking it. Water cannot be compressed so in can bend your rods when it gets into the motor in to large of a quantity. That damage does not get undone without internal engine work.
Been there, done that. Almost cost me $3k.

Yeah, Enough water to make a puddle in one of the combustion chambers, then its bye bye rods and pistons.

But given time to dry and evaporate...shdnt the engine fire up again??

And jus outta curiosity, how did u get water in yur engine lol?? Yo man, u have had some fun times

well a kid i know drove thru a puddle in his college parking lot and he had a cai. he said he shut the car off because it began to studder, waited a bit, turned it back on, and it drove fine. for 2 months until it seized.

well it wasn't on a max. It was on a 96 caravan, they decided for that generation to put the air intake duct UNDER the front bumper. Drove into a massive puddle to get into my alley. some dumb *** blocked the alley so I had to accelerate out of the puddle, didn't make it. intake sucked up water and hydrolocked right there in the puddle. Called the wife to come push me out with my truck. got the van to the shop, pulled the plugs, cranked the motor and we had a water fountain. Insurance company covered it after some negotiations.

Haha that was almost too hard to believe. But just like another member said... the amount of stupid question threads has sky rocketed over the months and so if I were to see this thread a few years ago I would be giggling to myself, but now I stare at this question in its face like I was looking at a bad 1960's porno... its almost exciting but... after seeing so many better ones... it loses its "quality"
