Look in your glove compartment, there is a switch on the left side. This switch turns on and off the functionality of the trunk lever. It's a security feature, if you switch it off, lock the glove compartment, and lock the rear seats, there is no access to the trunk without the key or key fob.

If it isn't that then I'm not sure.

Oh man I'm not sure then. Have you ever removed the door panel? Or maybe the glove compartment? I'd double check the connectors for the trunk lever on the door and the trunk lock in the glove compartment.

You checked it? Did you actually flip that switch and try it. The "valet mode" switch is mostly likely the culprit. +1 Joe Curr

The in cabin microfilter is in there, has anyone changed that recently, maybe bumped a wire or something.

i think i figured out the problem theres a braided metal wire that hooks to the trunk and its loose im thinking there isnt enough tension when i hit the button to open it... theres barely any room to get in there though im probably going to have to take half the rrear of the car apart. Nightmare! and i never even thought to change the in cabin filter.. going to do that this week thanx man! ill let you know if thats the problem though

Good luck. Here's a link to some of the trunk stuff in the factory service manual, starts on page BL-76.
