Question about climate control options on a 97

So a few days back in the Max, the dome light was shining down on the climate control display so that I could see all the places that are available to light up. I noticed, there's a 100's digit, as well as a negative. I know the auto-climate won't go below 65 or about 85, so what are these for? Possibly an outside climate reading? Someone help me, this has been bothering me for days... I tried searching but only got a bunch of LED climate control upgrades...

If there's a control or setting for the display to show the interior temperature, where would it be? Any other thoughts?

I haven't been in any car (buick, chevy, hyundai, honda, mitsubishi and now nissan) with auto a/c that shows the cabin temperature, I doubt the max is any different, that extra "1" you're seeing is for the ambient temp function.

Sorry, I read ambient and thought interior. So if it's for the exterior temperature, how would I go about making the display read that? Turning off the climate control results in a blank screen- what do you do to make it read the ambient temp?

Hopefully I don't sound like a dork, but I love finding out hidden options that new cars have. When I held down the unlock button too long one day and saw the windows start to go down I got all excited... I knew newer cars had that, just didn't expect the Max to.

I searched around off of the forum a bit and saw something showing a button behind the climate control trim on some guy's 98, and somehow pressing that would make the ambient temp display... Why would Nissan do that?

Someone help me out, I'm so confused...

You a referring to the AMB button. When you press it, the outside temperature will be displayed for about 3 seconds. I have a 98' Maxima with this feature on my Automatic climate control.

The place I got that information was on a 98, so is it only available on 98's? If so, why would my 97 have the 100's and negative digit?

Yea, I think it is only for 1998's. There is a link in the HowTo's 4th Generation Maxima, showing how to add an AMB Button.

Here is a link to the Maxima.org 4th Generation How to page

Here is a direct link to the CarDomain page with the AMB Mod

Hope this helps! I think the AMB Button is a must!
Another option would be to buy a new Auto Climate Control w/ AMB Button

Here is a link to Auto Climate Control w/ AMB Button on eBay
(It's kinda dirty, but Great price! I'm sure you can find more though)

Ah, thank you, that cleared it up for me. That car domain was actually the one I saw that on when I searched google.
