Wheel bearing noise??...newly installed
I know, this has been posted before but I thought I would ask anyway. So, i moved to California about 3 years ago and have no garage so all repairs have been delayed. I found a shop to replace the wheel bearing and hub assembly for $232. A steal at best since I would have spent at least 1/4 of that on tools (seal/race driver, etc). I saw all the parts before install. Everything looked to go together quite smoothly. So, on my way back to the house the right front, which was repaired, starts to make a noise like two brake pads are rubbing together, not brake on rotor. It is almost like a sushing noise. So, on the street I took the tire off to look at the brakes. All is fine. What else could it be? Could the shop have pressed the bearing incorrectly(I did not see them press the bearing)? This sucks b/c it is a total DIY job.

Keener - Yes, get that back to that garage ... most likely pressed the bearing crookedly. You're right, it's not brain surgery, but some shops hurry or use make-shift tools. One thought, is the shield for the rotor bent and rubbing? That could cause a rythmic rubbing sound.

Unfortunately I already tried bending the sheild back even before pulling the tire off the car. Always handy to have a long screw driver in the trunk. Crooked install?? is that possible? I guess it would be like putting sealed bearings in skateboard wheels and if not pressed properly they would not be square. BTW: have not ridden a skateboard since 1991, LOL. Thanks for the advice.
