!997 Maxima Question

Hello all---I own a 97 Maxima which i bought NEW in 97 off the showroom floor--today it has 104K miles--and it runs and looks like the first day--Honest! I have NO leaks anywhere--everything is dry-as always--Clean and dry--My engine you can eat off of--and thats the truth! I notice the rear motor mount (the one close to the rack) was what looked like leaking a brown fluid--I understand that 2000 maxima used filled mounts but i was told at the dealership--NOT IN 97!!!! I was just wondering of anyone knows the answer.. Thanks so much.. MARK

IIRC, SE and GLE models had the liquid filled / electronically controlled motor mounts, but I thought only the front mount was made as such. On my GLE, I know for certain that the front mount was electronically controlled - the rear, I can't remember. Search around, you should be able to find the answer in the stickies or in a previous thread.

*edit: such as this one, in which pmohr already answered your question for you

What trim do you have? Is your car a GXE? I don't think the GXE models had electronically controlled mounts.

Ok, so according to that post in the FAQ sticky, that confirms it. We do not have electronically controlled rear mounts, regardless of trim. SE and GLE models have electronically controlled front mounts, while GXE models do not have the electronically controlled front mount.

If you're saying that your front mount is a standard mount, and your car is an SE, then I'm not really sure what's going on there.

At any rate, not that this really applies to your situation, you can replace an elec. cont. mount with a 'regular' mount. I did it in my GLE, when I didn't feel like shelling out over $100 bucks for an OEM mount. I'm just throwing it out there to point out that it doesn't really matter whether or not you have electronically controlled mounts. If you need to replace them, you can use a mount from any 95-99 maxima. You will not get a CEL.
