tranny or linkage?

ok about a month ago i posted a thread about my 95 5spd acting weird on me...ok the problem...car cranks and runs great but when i push the shift **** to the far left and up...shifter automatically goes into 3rd?...plus when i push it far left to go in 2nd feels like somethings blocking it from going all the way down into the gear...any ideas? im just trying to figure out ways to check before its considered the tranny...car has 170k no tranny replacement or engine replacement...car has short shift kit on it...bought from previous owner that way...

did it ever work correct while in your possession? sounds like the linkage should be tighten or at least checked sounds like it needs new bushings how does 5th and R feel?

I'd start by looking at the short throw shifter, bushings and linkage.
