HELP! Removing Silencer

I've done some searching on the org and google and every idea I've come across has failed me so far. I just put on the custom cat-back from custommaxima.com and everything went great except I can't remove the silencer. The 2 bolts holding it down have been taken off I've tried spraying it with PB blaster, and removing it while its warm so the metal expands. No luck. The silencer looks like it goes back about 6 inches so I need something almost like a hook tool to get a hold of it and slip it out. If anyone has conquored this problem, knows a tool that will help me or anything it would be a life saver, messing with this exhaust for the past 3 hours is getting irritating.

You mean the resonator? Spray wd-40 on the rubber hangers and try to get some inside where the metal hanger goes into the rubber and then move it around and you can use a big flat screw driver to help. On the bolts, spray them with pb blaster, heat with a propane torch and then remove.

no the entire system has been installed already, its not the resonator, its the silencer on the end of the muffler. It looks like this

this is the exact system i ordered.

Grab it with pliers, it can be stubborn. It's too loud without it in my opinion though.

Maybe use two pairs of pliers, gripping on each side of the small inner pipe to equally distribute the force.

you should be able to grab it at the holes where the lil bolts are used to hold the silencer in place. fyi, those lil bolts will come out, use loct-tite if you want them secured

thanks for the advise, Ill probably go at with with some vice-grips when i get home from work tonight, Someone I talked to said i could cut it out, obvisouly this will ruin the silencer but if i cut this part out is there potential to ruin the actuall muffler?

you might want to take off the B pipe portion so you dont break something tugging on your exhaust with vice grips. remember to use cloth on the metal so you dont ruin the silencer if you like it better with it on.

mine has one bolt and it pops of easily but you should try to use a coat hanger make it into a U shape with the ends bent outward slide it into the silencer let it lock on and pull it out..

You're not understanding what the OP was referring to. A silencer is installed in the tip of the muffler, as seen here.

Get a ypipe, you'll definitely notice a difference in sound, and a nice little gain in power too. I suppose you could remove the resonator and weld in a straight pipe for more sound... lots of options really.

Hi car
I left mine in because it's too loud. Sounds better IMO with it in. Not obnoxious.
