ENGINE COLANT SENCOR PROBLEM!!!
HEY.. I HAVE A 98 MAXIMA.. AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS POPPING ON BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR.. BUT I HAVE REPLACED THE SENSOR 3 TIMES.. AND ITS GOOD FOR A LITTLE BIT BUT THEN IT BURNS OUT.. AND MY CHECK ENGINE COMES BACK ON...WITH THE SENSOR BAD MY CAR RUNS A LITTLE ROUGH AND IT STALLS OUT FROM TIME TO TIME WHILE AT A LIGHT AND IT BURNS MY FUEL.. ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW I CAN FIX THE PROBLEM???OR WHY DOES IT KEEP BURNING OUT THE SENSOR AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS...

YEA I CHANGED THE CLIP.. BECUASE I BROKE THE FIRST ONE TRYING TO UN CLIP IT SO I HAD TO GRAB ANOTHER ONE..SO I CLIPED THE WIRE FO AS FAR AS I CAN CLIP IT AND REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER ONE AND STILL HAVE THE SAME THE PROBLEM..

The code I get is po115 or po105 I can't remmeber exactly.. but I was told that I could be the ground going from the sensor to the computer is bad...so that's why it keeps burning the sensor and triping the check engine lite... is that posible??? If so can I bypass that ground so it won't trip it anymore...

Yes...the one for the guage is fine...the temp sensor is the second one...right behind the guage sensor...iam just going to take the car to a nissan dealer and have them diagnose the proble...to see why it keeps poppin the the light after a couple of days...

i don't know what the problem is...i am starting to think that its a bad ground going to the ecu.. so i have to find out what ground it is and bypass it if i can... that's the only problem and solution that makes sense to me...
any takers???

get a multi meter and start checkin

well iam dropping the car off tomorrow to get checked out.. i did check the sensor and it is burning out.. so i believe that i have a bad ground somewhere.. so yea they are charging me 50 bucks an hour to find the bad ground...but they wont charge me for more then 3 hours.. so if it takes 8 hours.. they will only charge me for 3.. so the most ill spend is 150...so thats good i guess..

It just seems unlikely your sensors are burning out. Unless you apply a voltage that is much higher than 12VDC it unlikely the sensor would get damaged. If you have a grounding problem that is also unlikely to damage the sensor, it just would not work properly. I could see one sensor possibly going bad but three is highly unlikely.
A good sensor measures approximately 2100 to 2800 ohms at 68 F.
FWIW my guess would be a bad connection of the sensor wiring.

sounds to me like you should have grounded out the negitive wire by splicing it and then documented the results of that, sounds like a bad ground to me.
but you really need to pick up a multi meter and learn to use it, youll need it at least 100 times on these cars, i use mine almost weekly.

Yo max man, why u always yellin lol thats hilarious
If the OP doesnt even own a multimeter, he better off jus takin it to a mechanic and jus be done with it.
Although i agree, i wd have jus spliced ground cable and grounded it someplace else and see if that helps. His decision of course.

I know how to spell dumbass...I had my little brother set this up while I was at work...
So if you don't have an idea on how I can get this done then don't bother adding anything to this thread..!!
I found out what the problem was....I had a bad ground running from the sensor to the computer...so I just ran my own wire from the sensor to the computer and problem solved...so Thanks to all that gave me ideas that lead to the solution...
