Check your vacuum hoses.

I think I might have flooded the engine trying to crank it the first time. About how long should I wait before trying to crank it again (when gas clears the cylinders)?

Looks like you have to retrace all your steps. Replacing fuel injector #3 required taking off the IM and a bunch of other things along the way.

yeah, I back tracked everything I took off when I put everything back on, everything is on and I double checked everything before i even tried to turn the car on. Still, car will start then die immediately

I vaguely remember (this was about 2 years ago) when I cleaned the EGR tube (had to depressurize fuel system for that job as well) that the engine flooded when I tried to start it, so I waited until the next day and it started (don't know why) so I'm kinda hoping that that is the case right now. But if anyone out there is familiar with what is going on any input would be greatly appreciated.

Did you disconnect the MAF for any reason?? Some people claim your symptoms with an unplugged MAF.
OT: Personally, my car starts and idles just fine with the MAF unplugged, it's when I give it gas the car would stall.

Have you checked the fuel pump fuse?

i removed it when depressurizing the fuel system, but I put it back.

Update: just pulled it out again, looks fine (i.e. not blown).

I did disconnect the MAF. But I plugged all the connectors back in I will check to make sure all the connections are secure though.

i replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 95 close to a year ago. I remember disconnecting A LOT of things.

You might want to look at the writeup for valve cover gaskets, and see if you missed anything.

I did. I missed a vacuum line and caused a myriad of symptoms, until reconnected.

Also mixing up the vacuum lines, I would imagine, might cause some weird problems.

How bout the vacuum lines for the IACV?

I only disconnected 1 vacuum line for the IACV, I'm going through the UIM guide again to see if I missed anything.

Note: I didn't remove EVERYTHING off the UIM I just removed enough to get it out of the fuel injector's way.

Well I did a search on the forum and found something similar going on with someone Else's car, it was a grounding issue and was solved by running a grounding wire from the negative terminal to a transmission bolt. I will try that out see if it helps

Nah, that's for the guys where their car cranks and cranks and cranks, and eventually starts and runs. For some, it never starts. Your max starts fine, but then dies quickly.

What year max do you have?

I did remove the IACV while removing the UIM, how do I test to see if it is still good?

Ok finally managed to pull out the IACV. It's dead as expected. A replacement IACV is not cheap though ($150-$200 ) but at least I know what is keeping my MAX off the street now. Thanks guys for all the help!!
