No start condition after a clutch job

I read another post of someone in a similar situation and it turned out to be a bad ground for them. where is this ground located? is it the little black wire that clips onto the little metal tab between one of the trans bolts and the trans case? I have a feeling it might not be my ground though. I installed a new flywheel and when the crank position sensor backing plate for the flywheel was installed on the new flywheel it looked like it only went on one way. however, could this be out of relation with the new flywheel causing it to miss? because when i go to start it i am getting some backfiring. If the ckp backing plate with the teeth on it is out of relation, am i screwed and i need to take the whole car apart again to reposition the flywheel or can i reprogram the timing at a nissan dealer or something?

You need to take a wiz wheel or a small grinder with a 3m pad and clean up the entire mating surface where the transmission bellhousing and engine meet.

can i just put a new ground in from the battery to the starter motor like the other guy did? it sounded like in the vid his max was backfiring too. sanding the mating surfaces of the case and block would require me to remove the trans again. are you guys sure its not because the crank position sensor plate on the back of the flywheel is out of relation?

edit: btw Luke, thanks for all your help throughout this nightmare! I've never done work this major on my car and **** has kept going wrong the whole way through out it but you've given a lot of sound advice and a couple useful tricks for getting certain bolts off, thanks for all the help! I'm going to try the ground and after that I'll test/replace the ckp before I rip the whole car apart again

run a wire from the negative battery terminal to the transmission housing. Make sure u sand the location, any bolt on the tranny will do. Jus make sure the CKPS is mounted the stock way. It can only be mounted one way to get it screwed in IIRC

the ground worked! seriously, installing a new ground should just be part of the whole clutch procedure!

Congrats dude! Another win for the ORG.
I prefer to clean that mating surface before reinstalling the transmission
anyway, i like less wires xD

it has the same amount of wires. just take off the factory ground and add a fresh new ground from the battery to the tranny. its like 7 bucks and takes alot less time than taking off the tranny again

sorry to burst everyones bubble but the car is still suffering. I've only gotten it to run 3 times (once its running its totally fine!) but it has EXTREME dificulty starting. So while yes, the ground got her to start right up, its still having ignition timing problems. PLEASE GOD tell me I can take her to a Nissan dealer and get a reflash because I know coil on plug ignition timing cannot be manually adjusted. I'm going to try a new ckp but if that doesnt fix it im pretty sure the crank shaft position sensor backing plate on the flywheel was put on wrong in relation to the fly wheel or the crankshaft or both because its misfiring when im trying to start it. My guess is why it eventually starts (and runs just fine) is that the ignition timing is being retarded or advanced by the ignition control module until the knock goes away.

I got the following codes
P0325 and p1335
p0325 was the knock sensor picking up the misfire.
p1335 i have NO clue what that means, the generic scan tool i used told me its the "manufacturer control ignition system or misfire"

Yeah its mounted the correct way but it doesnt look flush with the trans case anymore. That's why I'm going to try a new one before I rip the whole car apart again

is there anyone else on here with an aftermarket flywheel that has dealt with this issue?

I know its a pain to not have your car working but don't get to far ahead of yourself and start throwing parts at it and or reflashing ECU (why not get a used one anyway?).

Searched p1335 and got this:
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...335-error.html
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ard-start.html
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...on-sensor.html
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-problems.html

it sounds like our CPS is gone or the wiring to your CPS is faulty. Get a multimeter and check resistance of the sensor. Check continuity. Do a title search for 0407 and you'll get some more info

Thanks a bunch, Ill test the wiring to the cps and test the cps. I just really really really hope I don't need to tear the whole car apart again because the fly wheel backing plate has reference marks for each cylinder. I didn't see any...Our cars have a magenetic sensor not a hall effect sensor correct? All I saw on the backing plate was just teeth equally spaced the entire way around just like the starter teeth on the flywheel itself so I just bolted it right onto the new flywheel.
