y-pipe added to much noise
So on my last 4th gen I replaced my y-pipe with an lssexhaust one and it just added a slight lower noise but nothing to loud and I had the stock muffler on still. On my current 4th gen I replaced it with a warpspeed y-pipe and it added a ton of noise and I don't like it all. About a year ago my muffler rusted out so went to goodyear and they replaced it with an aftermarket one. Would me replacing that muffler with an oem one reduce the noise a lot of are warpspeeds y-pipes just loud? I wouldn't mind replacing the muffler since there's a dent in it (dumb potholes..) so it rattles when I hit a bump.
I also had to replace the pipe before the muffler at goodyear due to rust but forget what it was lol. Could that also be contributing to the noise? Or would it mostly be the muffler?

I wish my 1000th post would be better than this but meh...
Replace your muffler w/ an OEM 4th or 5th Gen muffler.
Don't even dare to think that you'll lose power. Mufflers yield little/no improvement on N/A maximas.

wait, i put my warpspeed on cause i knew it was going to produce a beefier sound out teh rear. plus better airflow, if you still have the stock cat, just add a cattback setup, megan, cattman, etc. and it'll be even louder!!!!! yeah baby!!!!

Thanks for all the posts guys i'll look around for a stock muffler to replace this one with. And it would just be the muffler right the other pipe that got replaced wouldn't make a diff would it? And I can use 5th gen one too? Thought just 95-99 were the same?

That's alright, how about we swap mufflers though

if you put on a stock muffler it will go back to being quiet, here is a muffler that i picked up for really cheap, but it has no tip.

Yeah I know mufflers don't do much about performance and I like your 1000th post since it helped me

Lol well I knew it would add some noise and I liked the sound it added on the previous max but i'm not trying to make my max sound like a race car or something. I like to stay closer to stock sound

i have flowmaster with no resonator check out this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX_5BkDUx28
Really? I'd say at least a little. Isn't the only reason the 2001 AE makes 227hp at the crank vs the rest of the DEK's 222hp because of just the muffler alone?
is your stock resonator (thing after the cat, between muffler and cat) still there? I put on my y pipe first, then added custum from cat-back; so mines loud as ____! W/o the catback though, it was very quite and it only added a tiny sound to the exhaust (y pipe did). So replace everything with OEM from the recking yard, or search around on the for sales forum. But if that resonator isnt there, add one, I dont have one on mine, but it does make it a lot quieter.
I think everything else is still good. I got my mechanic to put it in since it was to rusted for me to bother attempting. He did the last y-pipe install on the other max too but this time he said "You know it sounds like a race car now right?" and well he didn't say that last time lol. I'll just find an oem muffler and swap it and hope it does the trick. I kind of need to replace it anyway since my current one has a dent in it so it rattles like crazy which is very annoying. So hopefully I can fix both the issues at the same time.
About the rattle, I have that also and I checked my muffler and it is hitting the tow hook so I will slice a piece of rubber tubing and slip it over the exhaust hanger. Check to make sure your catalytic converter is still there. When I had my exhaust worked on they removed my cat. It was really loud without it and I lost torque. Now with it back on I have my torque back and it's quieter. You might have an exhaust leak either around the flanges or the flex area. Best way to check that is to raise the car and check along the pipe for leaks, you can also cover the muffler for a few seconds to build back pressure to help find leaks. I also had a WS y-pipe on my 3rd gen and it wasn't loud, I'm pretty sure you have an exhaust leak from a bad gasket. BTW look into exhaust wrap. The dynomax super turbo muffler is supposed to be one of the quietest aftermarket mufflers.

IIRC the dynomax street version muffler is cheap and quiet, a little search about Dynomax mufflers can tell you all you need to know.
