touble shifting from cold start.

first off, ive got a 99 5 spd.. the issue im having is when i first start driving form a cold start im having a little trouble getting in and ot of gears. For example if im driving and come to a stop light and go 4-3-2-1 its a little hard to get it into 3rd pretty tough to get it into 2nd and i cant get it into 1st untill im stopped. Then once i start going i have some trouble getting it into 2nd but then all the rest of the gears are smooth. Sometimes 2nd goes in with no issues but it feels like its grinding a tiny bit. Once ive been driving for about 10-15 minutes this problem goes away, and it shifts fine. Sometimes i dont have this issue at all and its fine from the start.

i havent really tried to do anything yet or checked the tranny fluid; i was just hoping i could get some insite as to what was goin on.

update: i did a little searching and found someone w/ the same problem. someone suggested it was the syncros but there was never a response or update as to what was done after that.

Mine does this as well. I assumed it was normal for an older car.

I would say worn syncros combined with the thickening of dino gear oil in the cold. Try switching to a high quality GL-4 synthetic gear lube like the Amsoil in the Group Deals section. Redline MT-90 is also a great oil.

YEah i wd recommend a tranny flush. Haynes says u shd replace fluid every 30k. Jus did mine at Valvoline for 100bucks everythin. Its ok. They use synthethic GL-4

hay buddy. i have a 99 5 speed as well...i had the same exact problem at a cold start from sticky clutch pedal to hard shifts. drain the tranny and replace the gear oil, then also see if your clutch needs to be bled. i can almost guarrentee this will fix your problem. dont worry about the syncros until you do this. after you do it ride it around for a full day or 2 to let everything soak in then see what you have afterwards. pm me to keep me updated
