Sup guys?.. any of you know about code 0705 or could look it up for me in a shop manual? I looked it up on the net and all i could find was..

P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction (PRNDL Input)

The car is a 96se 5-spd, and i'm not sure how this applies or where the sensor could be. The car drives great but the light turns on from time to time, usuall in 4th grear when i'm not really accelerating but just have my foot on the pedal and barely touching it. Another code that always comes up with that one is 0903.. they're always up at the same time. I couldn't find info on that one anywhere, haven't seen any codes in the 09 category either, but i got a feeling that whatever this is, it should go away when i solve the first problem. thnx.

Please don't confuse P0705 with 0705.

0705 is EVAP small leak. This is what you might get if you drive with a loose fuel filler cap.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes which are read with the dealer-only CONSULT electronic tester use the P prefix. DTCs which are read with the read-the-blinks method have no alphabetic prefix.

OBD-2 DTCs are available at Steve Cutchen's excellent MaxFAQs page: http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/

does anyone know what this "vent control valve" might be? I thought it might have been the purge control valve, but that checked out OK. The maxFAQs page it has a scanned page from the shop manual, and it says that there's a reference page for the issue (page EC-241) anyone know if there's a description of possible issues there.. cuz i don't have the book.

The EVAP canister vent control valve is located on the EVAP canister (underneath the vehicle near the left rear tire) and is used to seal the canister vent. This solenoid (the EVAP canister vent control valve) responds to signals from the ECM. When the ECM sends an ON signal, the coil in the solenoid valve is energized. A plunger will then move to seal the canister vent. The ability to seal the vent is a necessary part of the diagnosis algorithms for other evaporative loss system components. This solenoid valve is used only for diagnosis, and usually remains opened. When the vent is closed, under normal purge contions, the evaporative loss system is depressurized allowing "EVAP Control System (Small Leak)" diagnosis.

The EVAP canister vent control valve may be bench tested. Remove it from the vehicle. Verify that air may pass freely through the valve. Then use a pair of fused test leads to apply a 12 volt signal to the solenoid. Verify that air cannot pass freely through the valve. If the valve fails these tests, try cleaning it with WD-40 and compressed air. If this fails to free up the valve, replace the valve using a new O-ring.
