Hotsauce your sig is like %150 bigger than the limits and your car only takes up like %40 of the picture....
Sorry I'm a little pissy about a car meet tonight... sooo many idiots...
To the OP, why do you want an intake? For sound? If so... Goto autozone or ebay and buy a maf-> cone filter adapter, boom done.

Intakes are guaranteed to do one thing on our max's and thats change the torque curve. For the Worse. In most instances it will add a whole 3-4 HP and TRQ up past 5500 and youll lose MASSIVE amounts of Low End.
well let me give some details..i have the oovi and i have a place racing cai...but i think its time for a new one since iam gettin little hair line cracks in the intake tubing now....So on that info you think just do a 5th gen cai??Anything good out there these days,i Know injen is crap.Pr cai dont make intakes anymore so what to get would be the Q?
Massive amounts? that is the real placebo.
In reality its a different sound for each and + or - a few hp or tq. W/e you wanna do is up to you because its your car. just search and you'll find thousands of e thugs arguing which intake setup is better.
just dont spend $300 on one. They all do the same thing.

Well iam just curious what intakes are good now, since prcai dont make the intakes no more.
All the fastest NA 4th gens who all have short ram intakes say differently.

First off, what is this Placebo effect that you intake-haters keep mentioning? I dont get it. Next, an intake improves performance all around, thats their purpose and thats why people pay money for them. This is the only forum on the entire internet where a number of people say intakes suck.
I almost guarantee that any person who your speaking of most likely did not attempt the use of the 5th gen intake. Because a few that i have spoken with and read about have said that even they agree they did not realize how much power they were truly losing down low.
Why use a stock 5th gen intake and gain no power when you can buy or build an aftermarket intake and gain power? It doesnt even make sense, if youre gonna go through the time, trouble and money of going from USIM to 00VI, why use a stock intake?
And I know what a placebo effect is, it doesnt relate at all to an intake....

and the 5th gen intake is actually an upgrade. it manages to retain all of the low end rather than losing it for the high end. sorry but i trust Nissan engineering over some BS after market company trying to turn a buck.. Oh and it doesn't make annoying whining noises.
im aware of the goal to keep noise down, but their not exactly going to have an intake that they just threw together, they do actually dyno and design their parts with intellect. And anyone who believes that they would not have performance in mind as well hasnt put much thought into it.. I will actually say, i would like to see the locations of the intakes on other VQ30's such as the DET and DETT.

FYI, the Nissan engineers goal in making an intake is to keep the noise level down, not high performance. Most people who buy Maximas arent looking for a fast car. You can always make your own aftermarket intake with a cheap generic $15 cone filter, or you can spend some pennies on a name brand CAI.
Anywho, I want to make some edits....

You can always make your own aftermarket intake with a cheap generic piping, then fab up a heat shield and spend most of your money on a good filter, eg apexi dry flow, etc.

I say just get a $20 short ram intake and call it a day.
What I noticed when I installed mine is that there is this turbo-like whistling sound at a certain RPM which I admit sounds AWSOME. But the thing is that the pull at 0-50MPH is bad and much worse than the stock intake with the resonator connected and all that, but at 60-90 it pulls stronger and harder than the stock set-up. When I was driving one day on the freeway I didn't pay attention and had my foot held at like 20% throttle and it zoomed up to about 80 after a few seconds.

Ah yes, but most of which were too lazy to even try using a stock intake. Obviously the 4th gen stock intake is too hard to adapt to a 00VI and you mentioned the fastest NA cars right? well we all know the VI is one of the MAJOR players in beefing up these cars NA'.

The point of my story is that losing power at lower RPM to gain power at higher RPM is a tradeoff that pays dividends when the goal is to make your car accelerate faster especially when you're losing a few ft-lb of torque in an area of the powercurve that you're either never or in, or only in for a fraction of a second in 1st gear (which is taken up by wheelspin anyways) - and then you've got your gains in the higher RPM for the entire duration of your run. You don't race at low RPM - not if you want to win anyway.
If all you ever do is drive around and accelerate from idle to 3500rpm, then I could possibly see the benefit of keeping the stock intake. If you want to accelerate as fast as possible though, you shift the powerband to the right, and you rev your car accordingly.
I have the evidence to support my position. My timeslips and those of many others. Have you any proof that a stock intake makes for a faster vehicle? If there is some out there I'd like to see it because this position of yours has been around for some time, but I've never seen any evidence to support it. People making claims without supporting evidence is something that annoys me.
