windshield wiper clunk

my 99 105K maxima has a clunk when the wipers reverse direction, its less in havy rain,
how do you diagnose if its the wiper blade, the wipers, the arms, or something in the transmission.
Is there an online diagram that shows the location of the fastners that hold the firewall cover on? I have a 4 inch thick service manual but wipers are not in it

My passenger side wiper smashes with the hood at one point everytime it comes down, sounds very annoying but whatever. It's an old car not everything is going to be nice like new cars.

Mine do the same thing. Look at this:

I bet you replacing 28870 and 28875 would fix it.

Just got over a cold and saw this thread. AJM is prob right about replacing the parts, but Watson, possibly you and some others can remove the wiper arm and replace it so it doesn't hit the bottom of the window. Try that before you order the parts. Some may have worn loose, but I've seen lots that have just been mis-adjusted when replaced by mechanics.
Just a thought to save you $$40 ?
