is it hard to replace plugs in a 97 SE? does the intake manifold have to come off?

 

Easy Peazy Japaneezie. No the intake does not need to be removed. There is a stickie if you want all the finite details in the 4th gen section.

you really shouldnt need a write up...ill give you the steps but when you replace the spark plugs only use NGK anything else will mess your car up.

Remove the front valve cover (thing that says nissan V6 3000)
unplug the 3 black box looking things (coils)
unscrew (2 screws per coil)
Remove coils.
Unscrew spark plugs...put new ones in

for the rear 3 look for the coils back there....unplug them...
2 bolts per coils...remove them
unscrew the spark plugs
put new ones in

shouldnt take you more than 30 minutes even if your a beginner with cars

 

Just a little clarification, the thing that says nissan v6 3000 is not the valve cover, but actually just an ornamental plastic cover that goes over the ignition coils and the valve cover. Not trying to be a stickler but if someone tries to remove the valve cover without taking the ornament cover off it wouldn't be too hard to screw up the ignition coils.

And plus 1 on the ease of this job and on the only using NGK's.

Rudeness, not everyone's as nice as us three guys. To avoid people giving you crap and to avoid making a bad impression, you should really try searching and looking in the "How To" section before making a new thread especially with a simple question like this one. There is a write-up on this already in that section (however it still refers to removing the "valve cover", but the pics make it easy to understand what the guy meant). Searching makes the orgers like you more, and if you do, they will be more likely to help you instead of making hateful comments about you.

 

Its very east to do. I did mine for the fist time a while back and it was cake. Look for the how do to here on the Org. Thats the directions I followed and it took about 1/2 hr to do. I would use OEM spark plugs or equivalent, nothing less.

 

You forgot the anti-seize for the threads.

 

One thing I did to make it easier was to permanently weld a six-inch extension onto my plug socket. The spark plug socket likes to hang onto the spark plug in those deep wells sometimes.

type the following in the bar:

I use site:maxima.org to tell google to only search maxima.org and "4th generation maxima (1995-1999)" returns only pages with this exact phrase. I do this to only get 4th gen thread results.

Follow that statement with whatever you want to find. For example:

site:maxima.org "4th Generation Maxima (1995-1999)" "change spark plugs"

I put "change spark plugs" in quotes so google only returns results with that exact phrase.

If you want to return results that are similar to your phrase then don't put it in quotes. For example:

site:maxima.org how to replace spark plugs

This will get me results that google thinks are relevant but don't necessarily have the exact phrase "how to replace spark plugs".

guys i have just a quick question has anyone used bosch plugs

 

Bosch is a No No my friend. Stick to NGK plugs only!

 

Bosch is for German cars only.....NGK is for jap cars.... trust me!!!!!

 

I've used bosche for year with no problems. But lets not turn this into a which spark plug is better thread.

 

okay so i will stick with NGK also one more thing does the platinum spark plugs have to be gapped because the thread for changing them said the copper plugs only had to be gapped

 

I'm pretty sure you gap all plugs ( unless its impossible or if they're pre-gapped) With platinum NGKs, its kinda tricky because the tip is so fine it could break with a regular gapping tool. I use this one just to stay on the safe side. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...&brandName=OEM
