Throttle body removal

Howdy all, I'm trying to do the throttle body removal/cleaning as per the stickys and other articles on here, and running into 2 issues.

1. When trying to disconnect the TB cables from the TB by undoing the nut on the side of the TB that holds the cables on. The outside cable comes right off, but the other cable is still on. I don't see any detailed instructions in any post, exept to detach the cables by undoing this one nut, but that doesn't work. Can anyone tell me how that second cable gets detached from the TB?

2. The hoses on the bottom. The one closest to the dash board comes off very easy, and it looks like the one towards the front of the car (once I get the cables off and can access). But the hose attached directly to the bottom (i.e. the middle hose) seems stuck on there like nobody's business. In face it seems almost like its mounted to the TB itself and can't be removed. Just curious, should I just try and yank harder or is the hose supposed to stay connected to the TB but be detached from what it connects to.

Thanks for the help.

Open the throttle all the way and slide the end of the cable out of the cutout. No bolts need to come off to remove either cable.

Ugh, so that's what I was missing

You remove the cables only, not the assemplies connecting the cables to the TB.

And yes it works. Well there's 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Thanks Fr33way

Its clean

Couldn't get it as spotless as some of the pics I've seen on here but its def an improvement. I'm pretty sure my issues are EGR tube related anyways, but might as well do them all at once.

Yeah, that's why I asked. I figured I had an hour of light/heat outside left in the night, play with it on my own but just in case have the answer ready so I could get this part done tonight.

Sadly, while cleaning on a thick stack of newspaprers, spilled some grease that stained the concrete out back. So in addition to IACV and (maybe EGR Guide Tube) cleanings tomorrow, I need to get some concrete degreaser and clean up that mess...before roommate/landlord sees it lol.

While removing the engine air duct to get full acces to the solenoid harness coming out of the transaxle I noticed that hanging hose on the bottom of the TB. I know the hoses to the lower left and right are coolant hoses. Does that bottom hose connect to anything? I peaked at the FSM and did a search on here but couldn't find an answer.

Well mine does not have the hose. Didn't even know one was suppose to be there. From what I have read and seen on the org, that is the fast idle (for cold starts).

I copied this picture from the 'MAF, TB, IACV, and EGR cleaning for dummies' thread.

I presume that's just a hanging plugged hose that doesn't connect to anything.

I was curious about that hose because I'm trying to find the answer as to why my engine sputters while idling. This only occurrs in drive and when the engine is completely warmed up. If I switch to neutral or park the sputtering goes away. The rpm dropes down to about 450rpm then jumps back up to around 750rpm. I've already played around with the IACV, TB, TPS, TP switch, vacuum leaks, MAF, coils, injectors .... It is not engine vibration so changing the mounts will do nothing.

I've found many of threads concerning this problem with no answer. While the engine is sputtering, if I pull that tiny hose on top of the TB the sputtering gets worse. This has to be a air/ fuel ratio problem.

I'm now testing the several readings the ECM receives to adjust the auxillary air control valve. One of them is from the inhibitor switch only while in park or neutral.

When I pull the AAC connector while the engine is sputtering it makes no difference. It still sputters. When receiving no volatge input from the ECM the AAC valve must be staying put. While in neutral I'm going to pull that connector then switch to drive.

Edit: This thread has a title with a different topic so I'll start a new thread in a few days. Don't bother to make any more replies. Thanks for the suggestions but I've already done all that. I've spent hundreds of hours on this issue. I'll be trying a new tatic today.

^ Ya the TB is a bit different year to year. Your problem however seems to be something beyond that. Try changing your fuel filter. If I don't remember wrong, some guy had a similar problem and that did it. Can't guarantee, but it's a cheap enough fix that you probably need anyway.

If by "sputtering" you mean the idle dips occasionally, I had the same problem. Switching to NGK plugs solved it for me.
