17x7 wheels?

What are your opinions on 17x7 over 17x7.5 or 17x8 rims. The 17x7 are less expensive, but what about handling or the price of tires anyone with opinions or use 17x7 rims? I am thinking Konig Toxxins with a 42 offset.

anything wider than oem will be better.

17 rims will only limit your tires sizes. I would go with at least the 17x7.5. That would give a larger selection of tire sizes. I have 17x8's and run 235-45/17. I have found that my tire size isn't as available as many of the others...

Re: 17x7 wheels?

What you save in rim costs will more than likely COST you big time in limited tire selection and price. Get the wider rims if you go aftermarket...

Ok,
Thanks for the advice, but I have already commited to purchasing the rims. They are 17x7 Konig Toxxins with a 42 offset (which I hear is ok for a Maxima, any thoughts?) I probably should use the search function, but what size tires should I look for. Right now I have stock 16 five spokes with Toyo FZ4 215/55/R16. I do not want to mess up the speedometer readings with something that is too low profile. Thanks for the help.

I have 17x7s and I'm running with 225/45/17s. Goto discounttiredirect.com and you get 17 choices in that size. Tirerack's search give 53 results in 225/45/17. Compared to the stock SE size of 215/55/16, 225/45/17 is 1.3% smaller.

Tirerack.com recommended 235/45/17. Are these to wide for 7" width?
thanks

I have 17x7 Konig Tantrum and they work find with my 235/45/17 Falken tires. No problem at all.

I was told that you shouldn't go anywider than 225 on 17x7 rims. It can shorten the life of the sidewalls or something. The rims isn't wide enough to allow the belts to sit flat on the road. I'm not positive. There is a conversion meter in the links section off of the homepage. It will convert for you and tell you how far off your speedo will be. I had 225/60-15 and run 235/45-17 on 17x8 rims.

you should also consider the weight increase due to going to 7.5" width vs 7", not just the tire size. besides, 17x7 will fit both 225 and 235 just fine.

No problems here. I too run 235/45-17 on 17x7 rims.

I have over 30K miles, including road racing and autoXing, on 17x7 wheels with 235-45 tires. Manufacturers recommend that 225 is the widest you go, but 235 will be just fine. They are just a little more difficult to mount.

it must be time for new tires soon. I do about the same activity and I don't think mine will make it through the winter.
well thats good to know about 17x7. I want lighter rims.

17x7 looks too thin on the fat-max. 17x8 looks better IMO.
