1998 GLE purchased May 1998. Still have the window sticker on it (not). Will turnover 215K miles on tomorrow's driving trip. The car needs a lot more attention now than it did back then, but what doesn't after 13 years.

yepp same here. Well I am only the second owner. Most of the problems, I am having is usually Rust/ salt related. (ac compressor rust, rusting body rot in my Quarter panels.) and others harsh driving habits. The only issues I had with the car other then those is the EGR valve clog and well the Knocksensor. And a misfires. (stuttering), Car dipping below 300rpm when I throw her in N getting ready to stop and The Input shaft bearing on the trans. (still lasting tho). And the stupid boots on the axles that seem to last only a year at a time. (prob cause I use crap GSP brand)

Everything else to Bushings, the belts, to brakes to motor mounts was really my driving habits. lol

Do wish they were a little bit better in the least rust dept tho.

oh and my door hinge is weak, thats about it.

That good to hear that no real maintenance issues. WIth other cars, after a certain amount of miles, everything jus starts to fail.

I am the 2nd owner, but I had the car since it had 26,004 miles (a lot less than the majority of the people on here who usually get theres in the 80+ area), so I kind of consider myself the one who had it from the beginning. I'm about to hit 100k.

Original owner, 170,000 well maintained miles.
Nothing more then basic maintenance and a few coil packs.
Car runs, drives and looks awsome!

Yeah at 100k most of the problems I've had have been caused by me or (as S1 mentioned above) my driving habits (I live in the country...so I do push the car quite a bit on the back roads which wears the suspension considerably).

It's actually there - just camouflaged. I detest chrome on cars, and liked the look without it. The rear burger is removed, but I left the lettering. IMO, debadging the entire trunk makes the rear of the 4th gens look way too bulbous. To each their own.

I used to dechrome (that's what debadging was called) all my VW bugs back in the day too.

99 SE 5 speed, bought April 1999, currently 155K miles. So far (from what I can remember) I have replaced: All 6 Coil packs, muffler, plugs/belts/brakes/rotors/tires, both front axles, left front wheel bearing, lower radiator support, hood struts, all 4 O2 sensors, all 4 struts and related hardware, sway bar links, blower motor and fan control amp... All work done myself except the lower radiator support and tires... Next up is probably the clutch... All in all it has held up pretty well, most things were not unexpected, except that lower radiator support and blower motor and fan control amp...

95SE, 5-speed, LSD Canadian model, loaded. Bought through an auto broker. Ordered late June 1994. Took delivery October 1, 1994. Rust-proofed, leather protected and Diamond coated prior to picking up.

82,200 mostly highway miles. Still have the original front brake pads with 45% plus left on them.

Replaced starter last year. Replaced rear calipers and pads 5 years ago because the right rear seized as a result of not using the parking brake for about 5 years (my stupidity).

Replaced a temperature control sensor and an EGR control solenoid.

Replace an 02 sensor about 14 years ago on warranty, the others are original.

Replaced battery.

Original alternator, knock sensor, coils, MAF.

Developed infamous leaky transmission seal about 4 years ago, which resulted in the dreaded differential carrier bearing problem.

Last August, had transmission rebuilt - all new bearings and seals, replaced clutch components at the same time (although they were good to go for years to come). Replaced cv boots (inner and outer at the same time) as passenger side outer was starting to leak.

I saw a 95SE for sale locally with 366,000 kilometres on it. At my currentl 8,000 kilometre annual rate I will be there in 29 years and will be 87 years old. The car will make it, but I won't, lol!

'98 SE...original owner (and still have original window sticker)...drove it off the showroom floor with 36 miles...now with 180K and the following problems:

-replaced all 3 O2 sensors
-replaced alternator 3 times
-replaced both front outer tie rods
-replaced both front cv axles
-replaced both front struts + balljoints + bushings + endlinks
-replaced knock sensor
-replaced radiator
-replaced battery 3x
-replaced exhaust system (cat-back)

there are alot more stuff i replaced/repaired but can't remember them. mostly, the problems are from wear and tear only. right now, there's an oil leak somewhere and it's dripping overnight but i can't pinpoint it yet. and rust...it is rusting everywhere...hood, front and rear fenders, radiator support, the whole underbody is rusted.

1998 Maxima SE

I bought mine on May 10th 1998...It was my first new car after college and never did I think it would stay with me this long..170,000 miles later, I will never get rid of it..I'm now in the process in restoring some things to regain its glory(dash wood trim, paint job, suspension, leather seats, steering wheel, new headlights, maybe some of those hot LED tail lights going around)...My only regret is I wish I had bought it manual

I have my 95 GXE 5spd, I still have the window sticker... drove it out the junk yard with only 286,319 on the odo on June 21, 2008 and saved it from getting stripped and crushed.

Have done pretty much basic maintenance with the exception of
-radiator core support
-replaced 4-5 bearing in the trans

everything else SHOULD be considered normal maintenance

car has 331,100 at the moment and sorry to have posted here since I'm not the original owner but thought it'd be funny. 331,100 - 286,319 = 44,781 miles in less than two years. Max0rz has been to every surrounding state of IL and even to Atlanta yet it has never left me stranded. Most damn reliable car I've ever owned and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country if I had the means to do so. I'm keeping this bad boy until the end.

Well I am not exactly the original owner however I was there they day it was purchased.......

The original owner was my step-father. Back in the fall of 95/ early winter of 96 the family purchased three brand new Nissans. My mom got a 95 Pathfinder SE-V6 5spd, I got a 95 SE-V6 King Cab 4x4 P/U, and my step-dad got the Maxima. Well fast forward fifteen years, and all three cars are still in the family. In about 98 or 99 the Pathfinder became my daily driver, as my mom had another car. The P/U is still almost brand new, and it only has 9,000 miles on it, I love that truck!
In 2006 my step-father passed away, and I inherited the Maxima. In 2006 it had 79,000 miles, today it has about 135,000 (I don't know for sure since the ODO is lazy, and does not record the miles well). I love the Maxima, in fact it is my favorite car. It does not look great, as it is dented and scratched on EVERY body panel, but it has inner beauty! In fact I miss the Maxima at the moment, becasue the water pump is bad, and I have been driving the Pathfinder for over a week. I miss the Maxima power!

96 SE 5 SPD Pebble Beige, Cloth, Sunroof, Bose, PWR DR/WN/LK Orginal window sticker still with her.

215,000 Miles
2 clutches
Starter motor
water pump
alternator
cv joints
Muff

Exhaust is in desperate need of a total replacement ASAP!

The second clutch was burned up in one weekend by my father in-law (350 miles WTF). Apparently since I was out of town he thought it was a rental car. It's now considered a horseless carriage when he's around.

Not really. You can make anything smell good if you use enough pine-scented trees.

99 SE - bought with 6 miles on 11/27/1998. Currently she has just under 169k. Drives smooth with just a few extra noises.
Paid her off in June of 2002. I love not having a car payment!
The usual maintence has been done. I think the 2nd clutch is getting ready to go soon (first one replaced about 95k). NYC area traffic is awesome! NOT!

Original owner (by marriage). Yeah, my wife drives a 5 spd black '97. Oh baby. Now I do the maintenance but it's a labor of love as I never cease to be amazed at the simple but very effective engineering and construction overall for these moderately priced vehicles. The car has 187K and drives like a champ. When she finally gets tired of it, it will be mine to mod!

Original Owner

1997 Maxima SE fully loaded. Bought in June of 97 from Defeo Nissan in Jersey City rt 440 which is now Hudson Nissan. I have 136,000 miles.

1998 Stolen and recovered in Newark My insurance payed for everything.. even the rims that were stolen I also got a new paint job.

1998 Had issues with the alternator, was a factory recall for a faulty diode.

2000 starter failed, a couple bad batteries.

other than that its been the basic 4th gen issues, radiator bracket rotted and replaced that. Had a pulley bearing fail. Replaced thermostat, all basic maintenance stuff really.

I had a fan motor melt on me... the fan blade actually melted, don't ask me how. Got the whole fan motor assembly from a junkyard and replaced it myself easily.

This car has really been extremely good to me it still runs the same from day one, I will keep this car forever.

thought i would post even though im second owner "couple of other people did" 96 gxe 86000 miles. 5 speed....drove 5 hours to pick it up, really because it was a 1 owner. Also bought my wife a 96 gxe 121,000 miles auto and 1 owner. sunroof...little nicer than mine but not for long!!!! only problem is they are both white...wish we could have found different colors. anyhow the low miles and 1 owner thing swayed us that way

Original owner of a 96 GXE, 135K miles, no rust, basic maintenance ,upgraded audio, just replaced two hood struts, windows were tinted. Now it is showing its age, got few problems this year, replaced both rear calibers and rotors, parking cable need to be replaced still. Bought set of spark plugs yet need to change the original ones, now A/C starts giving me problems. Wife drove it the other day and came home with a dent on the passenger side fender, someone must hit it in the parking lot, don't even bother to fix the body.
